HELP...I've been robbed

I'd take the matter into my own hands, chances are the person who took your parcels, is someone in your local area..

Put a video camera on the mailbox, and leave a big parcel near it.

The minute someone goes to take it..

a) jump out of the bushes, spray them down with gas, light, kick in balls.
b) Play some police sirens from your kettle blaster, arrive in a uniform, and escort the person to a remote location, where you can give a beating at your own leisure.
c) Beat the crook down with a baton until he's incapacitated, Drive him into the woods, tie him to a tree, spread jelly, peanut butter, lots of sweets all over him, and leave 1 pound of raw meet by his feet.. Let nature sort him out.

Of course, there are many crooks and getting rid of one wont necessarily bring your knives back, but eliminating as many as you can, will definitely give you peace of mind.

Thankfully the vigilante justice phase has passed. I'd hate to go to jail for cutting the thief's manhood off. However, I did have the knife picked out. Unfortunately it wasn't a Kershaw. I had decided to go with a semi sharp, taiwan made, rusty as can be, piece of junk folder. I figure that the nasty case of tetanus would go along well with the loss of their giblets. :D

Now I am simply in mourning. :( But, I'm gonna be alright. Thanks for the laughs and stories guys. It helps:thumbup:

HAHAHA!

Spoken like a true mobster! ;)

I'm in the UK and I've ordered a ZT0200ST from the US. It was sent on the 22nd April with a separate parcel uninsured. I got the other parcel but not the ZT yet!

I'm thinking if the courier hasn't screwed me then Customs might because they say (for a similar knife) that the pivot screw can be loosened resulting in a 'gravity' knife! This is decided on a case by case basis.

Either way I'll lose the knife but I hope not.

Pray for me guys... It's my first Kershaw!!!!

Customs are always tough and I'd have to say that the UK is the toughest nut to crack.

Aw @*&%$#!! Sorry to hear about this, spiral...:(

Most of the knives I order are delivered USPS, and I always sweat it until they're in my hands, especially when I occasionally forego the insurance. I'll sure be alot more careful! I feel for you guy...been trying myself for a Ti/ZDP Leek for awhile now...

I know the chances are slim, but I'll be praying anyway that they turn up!

Ray :)

Totally sux! Thieves make me want to :barf:.

I actually caught a guy trying to break into my sister's house just last week. And she was home. She called and was hysterical (understandable) so I ran over and caught the guy on the back porch messing with the back door. I had a pistol but I let him go and gave the police a good description and he was caught about 20 minutes later.

I tracked a UPS package once that listed it as delivered, but didn't actually get delivered until the next day. Although it was USPS in your situation, when did UPS start leaving packages without confirmation? I thought they were supposed to leave a form note for you to indicate what you wanted them to do and after 3 attempts you had to go pick it up.

Leave something at my door and it will be gone, which has happened, as I live on a busy street that has a lot of pedestrians. This in turn leads to a lot of knocks at the door looking for work or sometimes outright pleas for money. I'm not unsympathetic, but damn it's like "trick or treat" or something. Sure, I'll just hand out money at my front door - what could possibly go wrong:rolleyes:.

Anyway, I'm sorry for your loss, but what is equally bad is the sense of personal violation. :(

I'm too expert at this:D
USPS was once a client of mine-I know too much about what goes on there and I also know that good people will say anything on a forum that is unable to verify anything that's said. Ok. got that out of the way.
I'm constantly testing my former client to see what they do.
Indeed. I have had almost everything imaginable that's bad, happen to my postal transactions. You might say I could write a book.
About your exact situation.
1) Insurance helps but is NO guarantee that you see the claim honored. If your claim is honored, it will only be after a HUGE battle with USPS, entailing investigations that sometimes take as long as a year.
2) Delivery confirmation is just that- the carrier logs the delivery into the system when they DROP the package into your mailbox or at your doorstep. It is NOT a tracking number.
3) USPS is not the most reliable carrier- it simply used to be the cheapest. For reliable transport, you must use UPS or an of the expediters (FEDEX , DHL etc)
4) I ALWAYS :
A- get a witness to merch being packaged and sealed
B- Photograph the contents next to the package with the shipping label in clear view
C- Photograph the package once postage has been applied with the receipt in clear view. * Because I use the APC kiosk so much , this part is a must do.
After the postage has been applied I try to get the teller to postmark my receipt .
D On expensive shipments, I keep all proof together in one place with a staple.

In all fairness, 95% of USPS handled packages get to their destinations as scheduled- safe and sound.

In more cases than not, undelivered package claims are the result of fraud on either the part of the sender or the recipient - not of the carrier.

The incidence of fraudulent mail claims rises exponentially with a downturn in the economy.

So- I do feel sorry for you, because I know it really does happen that real losses do occur from time to time. Next time, just follow my due diligence guidelines and it will be easier to prove your case to USPS and the community at large. And remember, USPS is only just a bit cheaper that premium carriers. :)

The last couple of days have sucked. Long story short....I had a couple of packages inbound. I checked the delivery confirmation number and it said the pkg had been delivered. The problem is that I didn't get the package. Stupid me didn't request insurance. I call the PO and eventually meet with my mail carrier at the box. The mail carrier told me that she put the packages in the box. I trust her, better yet, her supervisor trusts her (I did cover my bases and call him). I call the cops and have a converstion with a couple of officers. I find it best to keep them in the loop on this even though they have no jurisdiction. I am filing the postal paperwork right now.

Is there anything I you guys know of that I can do.

For the record, the knives lost were a Ti ZDP Leek and a Blk/Blk JYDII.... argh where the heck am I going to find another ZDP Leek.

Anyway, if you have any help....Please Help Me

I lost merchandise left in my apartments common mail room after the box was left on the ground with a note on my mail box saying it was there. I came back to find two open boxes with no contents inside. Long story short I was told to fill out claims, but do not have my knives or returned credit. They said that once it was delivered, if someone took it out of the mail box room, then it was considered theft in the same way it would be if they had come into my apartment. The police and apartment manager would be the only authorities to contact. Sorry about your loss. It doesn't look good. If this happens again, I will be more inclined to buy only direct to cutout the worrisome waiting and unreliability of packages sent by courier.

Really starting to sound like a PO Box at your local USPS office is the safest delivery option. A small box can be had for about $ 50 a year. And it sounds like it's worth it...

Spiral: I'm sorry for your loss (theft), but there might be one more avenue to be explored. The last place I lived, our "Knucklehead" of a Postal Carrier was constantly (at least once a week) delivering our mail to the same street number on a different street that was one street over from mine. So instead of her delivering the mail to 5493 X St., it was being delivered to 5493 Y St.. I don't know how your streets are layed out, but you might check with neighbors on the nearest parallel streets. I realize that an honest neighbor would have contacted you about the mistake by now, but hey, it's still worth a try. Good luck.

if your work will allow it, deliver all packages to work. I've found that deliveries to a business address is a lot better than to residential. best part, if your company has a receptionist, there is no "we'll deliver next day" or "we left it by the door" type incidents.

That's the plan as of now. Thanks to all who have offered their opinions, thoughts, distrust of the USPS and condolances. Like I said before, hopefully this all will make someone else rethink their situation. If this helps one person out, that works for me. Thanks much guys:thumbup:
