HELP! Lathe questions!

Thanks again, Jim.
This should be a more or less exact clone of the kmg. I was going to design my own, but I was convinced into going with the sure thing.
I should start looking for the right spring, I remember hooke's law, are springs sold by strength and size?

Most spring catalogs have OD, free length, wire size, solid height, and spring constant. Some have number of turns, ID etc.

Ok I am confused about a different thing,

The grinder plans show that the four 1/4" holes are 3/4" apart, but it also shows the threaded holes on the pivot mounts to be 1.25" apart...
I am tempted to weld these on with the mig welder, any suggestions?

I have another question, Is it necessary to cut the valley in the other side of the drive wheel?

Does anybody know? I have a double block next day because it is exam week. Much appreciated!

The groove or valley is there to allow access for the set screw. I do not think it would be required on the opposite side unless you wanted another set screw.

That is what I figured, Is there anything I should look out for when drilling that hole?

The center bore needs to be very accurate in concentricity and size. The set screw hole needs to be centered on the bore and correct size for the thread but not as critical as the bore.

Thank you, Chuck. Does it need to be right over the key? I think I will get the key done at a machine shop even though I could make a chisel type lathe cutter and shave it off myself. I only have a class or two left this year, so I may not get it done.

Thanks again, Chuck. I didn't get much done today, I had to make my idler wheel less than 2.5" :grumpy: and I do not know how to enable the taper attachment.
