Help me beat on a SMF

I just don't get why you would go out of your way to test the knife. I work in construction and I use my knives hard, BUT it's always for a reason for work. I don't go on lunch break and just hit it with a hammer while I eat my sandwich.

Edit: to be clear this is 'Merica and you can do whatever, I'm just trying to figure out why.

I broke an Iphone and tried to stab it through with an SnG. The knife is tough but dang that screen is brutally hard

Before you try and cut an auto tire in half you should do some research on how auto tires are constructed. Auto tires aren't just made of rubber, there's a lot of steel in them (radial steel belts, steel bead wires, etc).

Personally, I think it would be a lot cooler to give the knife to someone who can't afford one rather than intentionally do stuff to it that might likely damage it. It's like pushing a nice car over a cliff just to see what happens, some might think it's cool, but I imagine that people who can't afford a car would see it as a senseless waste. But of course it's your knife and you're free to do whatever you want with it without any judgement from me.

Cause he's burned out and jaded on all these knives and guns he owns.

thank you

My Dad always says, when people start to whine about having something they really don't need, "if it isn't eating or drinking, don't worry about it".

I have the exact same knife in brown, from the same place and I couldn't imagine spending nearly 500 hundred bucks and forgetting all about it for years. Then finding it in a junk bin and deciding WTH, I didn't even know I had that thing, I'll just torture test the crap out of it! :)

I have to agree with cake.
My Dad taught me to take care of my tools. My knife is a tool and my friend. I would never abuse my friend.
But, this is Allen's knife.

My sentiments exactly, I wouldn't consider myself all that frugal, at least when it comes to knives, but to be at a place where I misplace a high dollar knife, and not freak out about it would certainly be an interesting place to be.

Now I don't torture test my knives but hey if someone wants to, have at it. I just need to grab my popcorn.

It's ok to beat the crap out of it as long as you say it's for research and development. :p

I just don't like to see these sorts of bandwagons forming. He owns the knife, and if he wants to test it abusively, that's his choice. It's been done a lot on here and on YouTube. Personally, I'm thankful that people give a glimpse of just how much a certain tool can take. It's entertaining and nice to know just how much they can stand up to. Many very respected testers, such as Ankerson, who has posted here, have subjected knives to similar testing.

It just seems to me that if you're not interested, why bother posting? He didn't ask if he should test it, he just asked for ideas. No offense intended to anyone, it just bugs me when bandwagons start to form. I've seen Allen give knives away to those in need - if he chooses to do this with his property, it's his choice. I wish I could afford to have fun like that with an SMF!

I think the whole I found a $500 knife I'd forgot I owned thing might have started the wind blowing in a negative direction.

I don't care what he does with the knife, I just said I couldn't imagine owning one like it (because I do) and finding it forgotten in a junk bin years later. If I didn't want it I'd sell it and let someone else that wanted it have a nice knife. He can certainly test it in anyway he pleases and yes, I'll be "interested" in the results, just I couldn't bring myself to.

What I'd really like to see it do is make it into my pocket free of charge...

You clearly have too much money and time on your hands. Not that there is anything wrong with either of those, but this is just ridiculous.

Some people could never even afford something that nice and you are wanting to destroy it?

If you really just want rid of it, you could make someone less fortunate very happy with a gift like that. Give it to a family member or a friend!

Theres no better feeling than making someone else happy.
