Help me beat on a SMF

1) Open knife
2) Attach knife to giant bottle rocket with duct tape
3) Have someone light the rocket and slide it into the 3" PVC tube youre holding over your shoulder like a bazooka
4) Aim it at a tree and see if it sticks.

I would take some good pics, then sell it.

I would take that money and buy something I wanted to carry and use.

Or I would just carry and use it. No reason to beat it up.

I say just take it camping and use it for ALL your camp related tasks. :)
-Need to dig a hole? SmF.
-Need to fell a small tree? Cross-grain baton that SmF into the trunk till it falls.
-Traps, skewers, tent pegs, wooden spoons...SmF.

If you use it to do every possible knife-related task you can think of in a "woodsy" situation, you will have beaten it up enough to feel satisfied.

For some reason the letters G A W keeps coming to mind. I don't know why. Weird...
Here's a test, go to the bank and cash out your savings account(s?). Make sure to get all $100 bills. Stack the money up, and see if you can baton through it using the spine of the hinderer as the baton. Four words, BIGGEST DESTRUCTION TEST EVER. The story will be handed down from generation to generation. Its got everything, spine whacking a hinderer, batoning a strider, and destroying U.S. currency.

I have been looking into a knife worthy of military deployment. I have been looking at getting a Hinderer next year through the military program because I was able to handle one. I have not handled a Strider. The most 'combat' use I have gotten out of my fixed blade (Kabar) has been as a step to get over walls. I would be interested to know if this knife could be wedged into a wall and support a persons weight...or send it to me, I'll do it! ;)

Interesting thread.

Back to the point of the OP's original idea, leaving the "ethics, morals, and money" out of the equation, I would be curious to know if it can handle what a soldier would actually put it through.

The real question for me is: do soldiers really actually hard-use a knife? If so, for what exactly? There has been one suggested "soldier" use of the knife and that is to use it as a stepping stone to get over a wall. What else, exactly, does a soldier use a knife for besides opening MRE's and cutting new gear open? I doubt they are engaging in hand-to-hand combat with a knife, but I could be wrong. I doubt they are batoning wood for some campfire outside their quarters, but I could be wrong. I doubt they are using a folder to affix to the end of their M16 as a bayonnette, but I could be wrong. Has anyone pryed open the door of a Humvee that was hit by an IED with their folder? I doubt it, but I could be wrong.

Any soldiers in here, past or present, that can chime in on what they use their blades for while out in the field?

For those who may be wondering, no, I am not being snide, I am genuinely asking so that we can see if this Strider will indeed handle "military grade tasks."

"military grade tasks."? We do throw our knives quite a bit. Boredom is a very real enemy. Marksmanship is prized over knife throwing prowess so most Marines aren't that good and the subsequent wear on a knife can be extreme. I have had to cut wire with a knife and do cut burlap quite often. I also baton pallets whenever available because, dammit, fire is cool! As far as CQC goes; I have a shit load of kills:cool:...
