I'm trying to pick a knife from my grandson. He already has an sak as well as a Kershaw skyline that I just gave him. Christmas time is coming and I want to get him something nice, however he lives in North Carolina which would rule out any spring assisted knives or anything other than a common pocket knife. I was thinking about a nice case knife but I'm unsure. What do you guys recommend. He's a good kid and he's very responsible. Thanks for any tips fellows edit keep it around 100 dollars

I bet he’d like a nice multtool. Leatherman wave would be a good choice Slightly over your budget but there are other models.

Whatever you do, don’t buy a cheapo multi tool. They aren’t the same.

Or a Buck 110.

I agree that a Leatherman would be awesome, or you could get him a nice Case knife, pick a pattern you think he would like. It is hard to beat a Case Stockman as a "do all"

Id do a Skeletool or some sort of leatherman.

But you cant go wrong with a Civivi Vision FG if you want to blow his mind.

Edit: damascus one comes in right at $100.

does he have a fixed blade? Buck has a few in that price range. a 105 or 119.

on folders Buck 110 or Sprint select.
This is good advice. I started out with a Buck 192 Vanguard as my first fixed blade when I was around 10. I also highly recommend the Buck 110 slim. I carry one everyday and it’s ultra light, durable and dead nuts reliable.

If he's an old fashioned responsible kid sure a nice case would be cool or a buck 110 maybe 110 light or 112.

If he's like any modern kid they probably want something with a little more pizazz something like a button lock or crossbar.

Short list
CJRB Pyrite
Civivi Vision
Civivi Elementum
Buck Budgie
Kershaw Barenuckle
Squid Industries Bottle Opener It's a beginner Balisong not sharpened.
Sog Terminus XR

And last maybe some of Vosteeds knives they do a lot of fancy packaging and make pretty good knives.

I can't argue with anyone who recommended the Buck 110. And I hope no one argues with me when I suggest the Buck 301.

I still haven't found mine and it turned 45 years old just last week.

Buck=Longevity!

I would say something like a Leatherman Rebar if you think he'd like the tool kit, or the 110 was the first thing that came to mind if you want something old school. DLT Trading is an awesome place of business that supports the forums, and you could get a 110 engraved under your budget.
