I like both of these knives and will eventually get both, but as of now funds will only qualify for one.

So which one do you prefer?
I realize when it comes down to it, it's "my personal preference", but I want to hear what YOUR personal preference is!

Thanks everyone!

I got the 943 over the 710. The 940 series fit my hands better and I like lighter knives in general. I just prefer the shape of the 943 blade over the 940 but I would have been happy with either one.

apparently the recurve on the 710 can be hard to sharpen, half an inch longer is also significant. I've held the 940 and 943, the 943 is on my wanted list, both very nice, although they actually felt a bit small in my hands. Still prefer the 943 though, purely because the 710 is quite big and the sharpening issue.

The 710's bigger & heavier, but it's also D2 & should fit the largest hand. I didn't think the 710's slight recurve was much of a problem to sharpen at all.

I do like the 940's blade shape & it's pretty light for its size.

I always preferred the Osborne designs. I've also heard the 940 is a bit smoother to open. I never had the 940 but I used to own a 960. There was no jimping on that (I don't think the 940 has any either) but it was never an issue for me, YMMV. what do you plan on using the knife for?

For day to day carry I prefer the Osbornes (943/940). They pack a lot of blade into a slim knife that is comfortable to use.

My vote goes the 940. I really don't care for the recurve and the ergos of the 710.

I just traded for one of each. The 710 seems much bigger (comparatively speaking) than their size difference on paper would suggest. The 940 seems trim and light while the 710 seems larger, yet still very slim for a 4" knife.

The 940 feels like a 'small knife that thinks it's big' if that makes any sense. The 710 feels like a 'big knife that acts small'.

I like them both but my vote for the first one would be the 940. As Steven said above, they pack a lot of blade into a slim little package.

Ah man, tough one. I only own the 940 but have been wanting
the 710 for a while. The 940 is more EDC friendly I think cause
it's a litttle smaller, lighter, thinner. But the 710 has a more
useful blade profile (in my opinion) and built for heavier use.

So base your decision on your user preferences.

the 940 is the best.
i've had three of the 940's
for good reason.
one of the best of the Benchmade line.
excellent blade design
all good
buzz

I have a 940, and I've also had a 710 but it was stolen out of my car. I would choose the 940 over the 710, I think it's a lot easier to EDC, and I also think it looks a lot better then the 710. So get the 940 first you will not regret it.

710 is more of a "hard use" knife. My kids always thought it was the scariest-looking of all the knives I've owned. The 940 is smaller than it looks in online photos. It is a smaller gentleman's knife. The 710 is jeans, workpants, or overalls. The 940 is khakis or suit pants.

The 940 opens very quickly and smoothly. The 710 opens nicely, too, but a tick slower.

I own Both the Benchmade 710 in D2 and the 943 in S30V, both blades are excellent, the 710 is more of a Duty/Tool knife, while the 943 is more of a sleek gentlemens folder, both serve its purpose well, if you can afford it I would buy both you wont be dissapointed

I vote you get the 940/943 first. You will not be dissappointed. They are my favorite benchmades.. so light, so smooth, so quick to open, so edc friendly. It carries so well in the pocket-don't even notice it because its so thin and slim. I have 2 940s and a 943 on the way(hopefully today!). I still think you should get a 710... just get it after a 94x. Osborne designs are great.

I prefer the 730. BUT, since you probably can't find that one, I'll vote for the 940. It's slimmer, lighter, and more genteel.:)

Well, that's what one part of me says. The other part says, "Bigger is better."

Sheesh! I can see your dilemma!

I truely don't think I could decide, either.:confused::o

Okay, look for a 730. That's my final answer...I think.:foot:

If you like lighter blades... or more people friendly ones... the 940 is the way to go. I bought the 710 after my 940... and my 940 sees way more carry time unless I plan on doing anything serious with a knife that day. I think the 710 is great... but the 940 covers more general uses in a lighter/sexier frame.
