Help me choose! BM710 or BM940

I too was searching for a nice Benchmade folder a while back. My list included the 710 and 940, but also included the 890, 707, 740, 950 and 580. :o I ended up choosing the 710-D2 and it is on my porch right at this moment awaiting my arrival.

What can I say, "I like big blades and I can not lie, you other brothas can't deny..." :D

also isnt the 940 s30v? i would say do it based on s30v vs d2 whichever you want/like more

I can't agree with that, the knives themselves in terms of size, shape, and function have greater differences than there are between D2 and S30V. If it were down to me, I'd do 710 over 940. Can't stand the blade shape on the osbourne, but 943 is another story.

I had the same choice to make and decided on the 943 for EDC. I just received it yesterday, and I am extremely happy with my decision.

I echo the comments above, the 943 is a slim, lightweight knife that feels smaller than the pictures would make you think it is. A lot of knife in a small, trim package.

I also do not like recurve blades, so that was a hit against the 710.

I think you meant 950 ;)

I have a 940 and would carry it, but my pivot comes loose every single time i open it and no store around me carries loctite besides its superglue, so id go 940. also, the blade shape is awesome for edc, and the reverse tanto makes for a strong reinforced tip.
I'd go 940

Don't you have a Sears, or Home Depot, or auto parts store near by? All should carry loctite. If not go steal a bottle of your significant others fingernail polish. Use it in the same way. I worked in a bike shop for a few years and that is all we used and I have used it on my own knives without a problem. It is a fairly common substitute. Color doesn't matter, just wipe it off if it gets on any part of the knife during assembly.

Edit: It can be a little tricky getting the pivot adjusted just right. A few degrees turn of the screw can completely change the feel. Once you get it where you want it let it sit over night so that it doesn't move before it dries. I will also wiggle the blade back and forth (not in the direction the blade rotates, the other plane) to make sure any 'slack' is taken out once you get the pivot to where it feels good. Then let it sit.

make sure you use blue or purple loctite. i'd go with purple probably just so you don't strip anything trying to get the screw out. you can find purple easily on the internet. check amazon.

Use TEFLON TAPE!!!

Yea the 940 for sure. It opens like an auto and has a nice tip and belly for cutting. Though when I bought it the pivot loosened and I would feel horizontal play evey couple time I opened it(it still does this).

710 its beefier but not so big it doesn't fit well in the hand or your pocket, and IMO the original defining blade of Benchmade.

I read many posts just like this on the 710 and put it on my "must have' list to check out the hype. I was able to recently acquire one with the M2 steel and it is great. It bumped my 940 and 730 from my EDC lineup. It is a big knife that disappears in the pocket. Good luck with whichever one you end up with, they are all nice.

I think everyone should own a 710, but the 940 is an excellent knife and it is really a question of whether you want an apple or an orange.

Fingernail polish is good....I have had mixed results with teflon tape...never use green or black loctite...make sure you clean the threads and dry them before you try any of those...

It depends on your needs. Both are great knives, the 710 is a workhorse, the 940 is a gentleman's knife.

The 710 offers a more generous handle which is more comfortable for prolonged or heavier use. I think the blade recurve thing is a bit overblown. In practice I don't notice the recurve when using the knife.

The 940 also has a nice blade shape and possibly a stronger tip. It is more suited for dressier occasions.

Get both! :)

I like both 710 and 940, with the nod going towards the 710 for being more robust and a heavy duty EDC, where the 940 is more utility and slips easier into a pocket yet delivers a surprising blade.

Actually one of my favorite combos is a 943 and 710, both look alike in a lot of ways, I prefer the clip point over the 940.

Heck, just get both!

940 is also more friendly with the non-knife crowd. I've let several people borrow mine and they all commented on how cool it looks.

And weirdly, nobody thinks my Sebenza looks cool. "That looks so plain."

Having used both knives, either.

for slim and light 940.

for full steel liners and a bit more blade, 710.
