Hey BF,

This weekend I'm going to be going on a pretty big camping trip with the girlfriend's family. This is the first camping trip in going on since I've started collecting knives earlier this year. I have everything else all packed and ready to go.....except now my hardest decision is picking a damn folder to take.

I already have a 7" 1095 for wood processing, and a SS Mora Companion, but I like being excessive and I want to take a folder with me. I've narrowed down my collection to these 5 and I'm stuck

Left to right:
Endura in V-Toku2
WE 705a in M390
Manix 2 in S30V
Benchmade Rift in 154CM
USA Old Timer Stockman 1095

I love all of these but I don't want to take TOO much, I can only bring one.

So please Bladeforums, help me decide on this one

I have a hard time calling anything with a 7 inch blade a chopper, what is it?

I think its more your preference with those 5
I guess I should watch my terminology around you guys. I have little experience with fixed blades so it will act as my chopper/wood processing knife. It's a Schrade SCHF52M I got free off the PIF. This trip is going to be it's torture test :)

I would more call that a belt knife, but hey.....i own a mukti which is pretty much insane

I’d say bring the one that holds the least value IN YOUR EYES. That way if it gets dirty, damaged or lost it wouldn’t be that big a deal to you.

You have 2 decent sized fixed blades, I vote for the Old Timer. If you had a smaller (3" or less) folders I'd vote for it, but all your other folders are bigger.
All of my 3" knives are Kizer Bladesmiths. I was thinking about bringing my Sheepdog but that would hurt if I lost it.

So it seems like the Old timer is favored and I was strongly thinking about it too for that classic feel. I'll let this play out and I'll go with the option that gets the most votes. I'm putting this I everyone's hands

I kinda lean on the Endura 4 as a “go to” when we camp. Great for food prep, bait prep (if fishing), game cleaning (if hunting), decent whittler, cuts cord easy, can hack small branches, carries light, splits palm leaves for weaving, opens coconuts with long blade and flat grind, can be used to dig in a pinch with tall blade, FRN impervious to weather, oils, etc., bright color options to find easier in tall grass, lockback for a bit of added safety when far away from medical responders, and reasonable replacement cost if lost.

Of those you've listed, the Old Timer every time. But if it were me, I'd take a SAK of some kind (in my case likely a huntsman or climber) and a BRK (ESEE branded) Zancudo as a handy locking folder (in D2 if you can get it but the AUS8 ones work just fine). I'd substitute an Avispa for the Zancudo if you're thinking more food prep than utility use. But that's just me. You'll probably find as many opinions as you have respondents.

o_O

I like making memories with my knives, using them, relying on them, getting them dirty and scratched up, making character.

Bring the one you don't want to be without and use that baby.

Old Timer would be good for whittling (like hot dog sticks and such). Good for "girlfriend's family" too, I would suspect. The Old Timer has 3 blades. :)

I love Spydercos, and Enduras especially, but I think in this case, you will find the OT just WAY more useful for tons of "little camping stuff".
