I guess it all depends on the application. I’ve lost knives on camping and fishing trips in the past and they still haunt me to this day
I like making memories with my knives, using them, relying on them, getting them dirty and scratched up, making character.
Bring the one you don't want to be without and use that baby.
This raises a valid point. However, it does rather depend on the type of experience you are going for. If I’m going to walk very long distances, carrying a tent, then as long as something catastrophic doesn’t occur, Fletcher’s experience is highly instructive. If I’m going out with minimal gear, making shelter, possibly making other things out of found materials, then a decent knife is a real boon. Mind you, there isn’t much you can’t do with a decent SAK.Colin Fletcher, arguably one of the great modern backpackers(author of the "Complete Walker", "The Man Who Walked Through Time", "The Thousand Mile Summer".....) carried a SAK Classic and rarely had need of it. The most use I find for knives when camping is for cooking tasks.
For my fixed blade needs the Mora has everything I need. I'm not as passionate about fixed blades as I am about folders, so I think my money would be better spent on a good folder that I use all the time. I haven't been able to get out there as much as I'd like to in the past few years so a good fixed blade would go unused.Honestly, while camping, any folder I take sees little to no use. I prefer a fixed blade for virtually everything in the woods. I’d swap out the Mora for a fancier fixed blade like a Fallkniven, Lionsteel, or a custom, and not care about the folder.
I'm forcing myself to take one for simplicity. I don't want to have to spend the first half hour of my morning flipping knives to see what I want to carry. I do that at home already. I just want to worry about one folder while I'm away. I was thinking of taking a few in a Kizer pouch but I decided against it.I voted for the Old Timer but if your car camping why not throw all in your pack?
Camping=Cold Steel FinnWolf...
I think the Endura is well suited for your camping trip. In my experience, the fixed blades won't get used much if you generally favor folders. I favor folders myself and habitually just reach into my pocket when I need a knife to cut something. I don't really even seriously consider the fixed blade I have on my belt unless the task is larger. A SAK with a saw blade is quite useful camping and frankly all you really need for the most part. But I understand feelings about SAKs in general; you either favor them or you don't.For my fixed blade needs the Mora has everything I need. If the numbers stay consistent it looks like I'm going to take the Endura. I'll look at the tally tomorrow morning before I head out. Thanks for deciding for me BF!
Because I live in the city I'm just more used to using a packet knife. Of course I'm not going to baton with a folder, but that's what i have the beefier fixed blade for. But for general tasks i always gravitate to the pocket knives. I have used the Endura a lot at work and find it's super comfortable. I work in a warehouse and I'm cutting up and opening boxes all day. The V-Toku hold up really well and the egos are great. In this case I'm happy I went with the Endura over a Delica because this handle and blade size are perfect.I think the Endura is well suited for your camping trip.
