I know I can't even spell it:confused:

I would like a good (tactical-type) kukri with a nice sheath. I have looked at Himalayan Imports, but nothing really stood out for me. I want something a little different. Any info would be appreciated!

They don't come with a sheath, but if you want tactical the Killa Zilla is about as tactical as they get. It is around $700 or so.

KZ is "tactical"?

It's cool looking but I wouldn't go as far as to call it tactical. Also a lot of us are waiting for KZ CG which would be a bit more tactical due to its coated blade.

Also the sheath could be purchased separately done to your liking by many good people from the forums here.

I'd say get KZ if you want a big shiny scary chopper knife, ot go custom and get exactly what you want. If you want to save some cash get kabar or CS as was mentioned.

Cold Steel makes fantastic kukris, but they are pricey. If you say you want something different, you may try to track down a Cold Steel LTC kukri, which is also cheaper. It looks different than a standard kukri by having a fatter belly. I have one and it is crazy sharp, BUT the blade is thinner than a standard kukri, so I would not say it is good for chopping hard wood. I don't think they make them anymore, but you can probably find some through Google.

Compared to a real nepalese khukuri, yeah the KZ is tactical. For the money, you arent going to find a better chopping khukuri than a real nepalese khukuri. The ones that will compare to an H.I. cost much ,much more than any H.I. product does and anything lesser is just a waste of money. Actually we're sorta having a similar discussion on this subject in the Cantina.

For the price and a beater it really is tough to beat Sarco. While not in any way fancy, and not nearly as hefty as some the the dedicated choppers, the 12 and 13 in Sarcos will work well as utility choppers, and if you happen to destroy one you can buy a lot of them for the price of a really nice Kukri. I like nice Kukri and have some, but for a beater the Sarcos really are tough to beat. http://e-sarcoinc.com/knife.aspx.

You have not set up any contact info?

I just had hand surgery this week, so if you don't mind you can call me direct 337 424 5482.

Thanks

Try Bill Seigle; he likes making large knives, and his Hoodlum (pictured above) is very nice.

This is the same knife with a guard.

I have the Ka-Bar and highly recommend it. It is a very versatile big knife. I used it on a solo camping trip recently in a very nasty Louisiana swamp. It chopped firewood well and was excellent for bushwhacking.

I have to agree with you there. H.I. is a hell of a deal. And it will outchop the KZ due to its handle design. KZ however is a tester prototype, so you have to take it as it is.

Its on my to buy list, I just have a far more expensive Mr Mojo LE which kinda fits the role. (Actually, can you consider it kukri? If yes then it is the most tactical one there is.)

Here is one I got from H I awhile back. I think it was a limited run with this handle. This has more of a bowie style handle instead of the typical khukuri handle. I am thinking of selling it.

You should consider Khukuri House if you don't mind waiting a month or so. You'll save a bunch and IMO might get a better khukuri than you'd get from HI.
