Help me find a good Kukri

You do understand why it was closed? There comes a point when arguments become not only counterproductive but disruptive.

You are still free to post, both findings and opinions. Please don't make extra work for me by spamming those findings and opinions over multiple unrelated threads.

For the record... i didnt try to silence him.
His thread still stands.
I only prevented him from insulting Yangdu or Uncle Bills Legacy any further.

I won't. I'll start an entirely new thread (just the one) when my new KH Sirupate comes in.

Karda: Uncle Bill sounded like a great guy and he definitely has helped the kamis and their families and made the Nepali khukuri popular. I just feel HI charges a lot more than KH does for knives that are of the same (or, in this case, worse) fit and finish and are not entirely as described. My Kobra is definitely not the world's lightest khukuri as stated on HI's site. HI does make some mean looking heavy choppers though, but that's not what I was looking for when I bought a Kobra.

Something else I noticed--the balance on the KH Sirupate feels much, much better. Perhaps this is due to the extra length and handle size on the Kobra. I'll have to wait until the larger Sirupate arrives to know for sure.

You locked the thread in the Cantina, so I could no longer post on my thread. I consider that an attempt at silencing me.

Uncle was a one of a kind, that is for sure, He is dearly missed even by some who only have known him by his words. Auntie is the same way, As is her father.

Now you are aware of the reasons why H.I charges a little more. True she could have described it a bit better, but you also could have talked to her about your purchase beforehand, just as you could've paid attention to the size and specific weight listed. You knew you were buying a blem from the start.

We both could've been more civil in that thread.
For my part i offer you a simple apology. I am sorry.
This does not mean that your thread should not have been moved or that i should not have locked it when you became insulting to a woman, a legacy and a company that does not deserve it. If you had contacted auntie instead of being malicious, you might have been able to return the khukuri at her expense, a discount....who knows? you didn't give her the chance.
Your thread will remain in the Cantina and It will stay locked.
You need not apologise to me, but i do think you owe a gracious lady a public apology in her forum for you to have much of any future in that forum.

I was under the impression the blems had slight flaws as described by Yangdu. This one was described as being a 'great investment,' having 'a small grain mark on the handle' and a '10/10 rig.' What I got was worse than the $65 (shipped) Sirupate from KH, and the HI cost me $120. Blem or not, I want more for almost twice the price, not less. Even at the $85 it cost before shipping, you'd be getting less knife than you'd get from KH, and you'd get something fully customizable from KH for that price. Don't tell me all of that extra money goes towards the kamis and their welfare. Do you know for sure?

I don't see Aunty giving me a full refund for the khuk and letting me keep it like KH did. I will contact her now. Let's see how she responds. If she takes it back, I'll try a full price Kobra or Sirupate from HI and then we can make a real comparison since you guys believe this blem was so different from the $120 20" Kobras for sale through HI's site.

Yangdu's been as good as KH has (so far). I was just curious as to what her lifestyle in Reno is like because I have no idea. She's totally entitled to make as much profit as she wants on the khuks, but I still believe KH khukuris are better for less money, and if I believe they aren't as good value for money as KH khuks, so be it. If someone would like to send me a first rate HI khuk to compare to my new KH Sirupate, I'd be happy to compare them side by side.

First.... it is easy to use the "quote" button. Please do so.
As i stated, she probably could've described it more fully, but you were under no obligation to buy until you asked questions to be sure. Obviously some of the money goes into material and the shop, wages, overhead...etc. But yes they do have a kami fund and treat their Kami's well. What They do with their profits is neither my concern , nor yours. But yes...I do know.

Is that what you're after? a freebie? Honestly (and i've told her so) you should probably get nothing until you've made that apology. I have apprised her of the situation and it appears she is out with her father for the memorial day weekend
I wouldnt expect to hear back from her until sometime in the week ahead.

Again, her "lifestyle" is noones business but her own.

True. All I care about is getting the best quality for the best price, and so far KH is giving me both.

I don't believe I owe her an apology for anything I've said, but sure, if she's offended by my words, I'm sorry. Significantly 'worse' things have been said to me and I'm not bothered in the least. :) I don't want the khuk for free--I just wish I'd gotten $120 worth of khukuri instead of less than $75 worth.

Again, her "lifestyle" is noones business but her own.

Agreed, but I bet she's doing alright for the prices HI khuks go for. By having them shipped to the US in bulk, the shipping cost per khuk is also substantially lower than KHHI's. They ship each khukuri straight to the customer once it's been made. Each khuk/katana/sword probably costs her less than $20 with shipping. It still appears to be true that Young Sher Kobras are worse than KH's current Sirupates, which cost less.

One plus to shipping in bulk, however, is fuel efficiency for US consumers (where the vast majority of HI's customers are based). By shipping in bulk, there is less energy expended in transporting each khukuri to the end consumer.

jayinhk would you please stop bringing this up, you have had one bad, in your view, product from HI. It was purchased as a blem, you can't expect it to be perfect. I personally have no experience with HI Khukuri so I can't say anything bad about them, I do however have a KHHI Khukuri. It wasn't perfect, but the overall knife suited my needs. Both companies make a serviceable khuk, yet you are focusing on the negatives of one blem from HI, it is not a fair comparison. Please drop this, thank you.

The Hunk at the bottom is pretty nice. I like that handle.

I might order the 3 Chirre antler crown khukuri! I have one KH khuk I got in like 2003 from memory...its seen insane abuse, from digging and prying rocks to smashing through australian iron bark which is one tough wood. I like HI and KH, but when I ordered my first WWII styled khuk from KH and mentioned I wanted to review it they sent it for $30 to my door (took 3 days from their warehouse via DHL).

Wonder if anyone on here has one of the 3 Chirre, I like to see the model i'm buying from pics other then the source (that goes for HI too).

I'm all done for now. I'd like to compare a full price HI to a full price KH, but I'm not about to drop $165 on something I believe would be worse (for my purposes) than the $65 khuk I'd get from KH. Also, remember, the only blemish pointed out on this khukuri was a small grain mark on the handle, not the plethora of issues I encountered.

That does look like one cool khuk. I have a smaller one with a stag handle and it's quite nice. I definitely considered getting one, but I think I'm done buying khukuris for at least a month or two. I already know I'll be buying a bunch of custom balisongs and bolos in the Philippines in early July.

Lets get back to the knives specifically khuks.

This is not the forum to bring up personalities and who should apologize to whom.

Consider this the first and final warning in this thread and in others to come. You guys will need to settle your differences or ignore each other in General.

If you look at my posts on this thread, they were on topic until other people butted in and got personal. I was merely responding to their posts. I'm all done for now though. :)

I did read every post here and asked that the discussion get back on topic saying there would be no more warnings.
I wish you would have listened.
