Help me find a new fixed blade

I'm looking for a new fixed blade knife for general outdoors use. Blade should be between 3.75 and 4.5 inches. Thought the Cold Steel Master Hunter might be the ticket, but I tried a friend's and it is too big a knife for me, especially the handle. I have small hands and the handle on the CSMH is too thick for me. So I want something with a thinner handle than that. On the other hand, I have an AG Russell Deer Hunter, and that handle is a little too thin. Something along the lines of the handle on the Buck 110, but in a fixed blade, that's what I'm looking for. I'd like to keep it under $100 but I would pay a little more than that for quality.

Possibilities that I have thought of so far:

1) Buck Vanguard
2) Buck Diamondback 4.25
3) BM Rant DPT
4) Fallkniven F1

Can anyone compare the handle sizes of those knives to the CSMH and the Deer Hunter? Any other ideas? Thanks.

You may have to spend a little more to get one but the Bark River Knives are alot of knife for the money. If you want to little more than dle the $100 you could get a Dozier. You wont go wrong with either one.

take a look at some knives from marbles knives,I have a ideal and a plainsmen with leather handles,Also ontario`s rat series is a good bye,the TAK is a real work horse of a knife.good luck and happy knife hunting!

Get all of them! they are all good the Ranger 6 is awesome but a bit big.
The fallknivens are so sexy but a bit pricey. If you want value a laminated mora from frosts ,you can get them at ragweed forge for about 15$.
I just ordered the Scrapyard streetscrapper 4 in INFI but I heard they are already sold out.
Benchmade NRA

If you like fallkniven check out Hattori, heard a rumor on here that they make the fallkniven knives in japan and their fighter is sexy.

Fallknivens are cheaper in Europe i believe.

Hattori's are cool too, they got two major sexy daggers, the classy standard one and the more modern, latest 'ultra dagger'.

both daggers are considered boot-knives considering their size and sheaths.

their fighter is called the Defender, but it's pricey, but boy does it look the part

btw, Fallknivens are awesome. every test i read they came out 1st or shared 2nd on the outcome. nowadays they also come with kydex w/TekLok's

How is the handle on the Fallkniven F1? Is it smaller than the Cold Steel Master Hunter?

one more vote for the Fallkniven F1, its put alot of my other fixed blades in to hiding. Its a hard knife to beat!

I have the NRA Snody by benchmade, that is a nice comfy knife that fits your spec they also do the Hinderer. If you upped your price range then TOPS knives make plenty that would suit your needs !!!

never handled a CS MH, but just by looking at some pics i think the F1 has a slightly thinner handle (=better if you have average sized hands)

Since you liked the Cold Steel Master Hunter but it is a little to large for you, check out the Cold Steel Lloyd Pendleton model, I think it is just what you are looking for.

Ralph, i read a multi-review on hunting knives and the Pendleton didn't really fare well, to say the least. it also still has a realatively thick handle compared to the Fallkniven.

the Pendleton broke in half with little sideways pressure, edge-retention was terrible and the sheath was not up to par with the rest of the bunch.

if a CS it must be, i'd go for the Outdoorsman VG-1, but that one's pretty expensive, isn't it? the new Sisu is also very nice and traditional looking.........oh, the decisions, decisions.......

What about the TOPS Blue Otter or TOPS Irac Jack, both listed just within your price range....both will last a lifetime.....also get a quote on them from Newgraham,he can order any TOPS in and is really well priced !

Get the Fallkniven F1 with Kydex sheet. I've got one and it's a very good knife to carry around.

I glanced over some of these posts and saw some good suggestions. I apologize if I go over ground already covered. The Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter is slightly smaller than the Master Hunter, and it looks great. I don't think you could go wrong with the Fallkniven. I have heard lots of good things about Bark River knives and would really like to have one. Have you heard of a company called Anza? Check them out. Also, AG Russell makes a couple of neat little knives similar to the Pendleton. I have been considering the Ontario RAT 3 or 4.

Keeping it within your size range (but not price) you can get yourself a Ranger RD-4. Depending on the extras you get it can be anywhere from 90$ to 130. I just got one for Christmas and it is the nicest fixed blade I have (out of Beckers, Sog's, and a couple SRW's). Good luck on your hunt.....
