Help me find a new fixed blade

Before I bought a production knife that was only "close" to what I wanted, I'd check out a few knifemakers like Chax Knives. He has a large selection on his web site, but he's also willing to work with you to get just what you want and his prices seem to be pretty reasonable compared to some of the custom and even production FB prices I've seen.

He also uses a pretty wide range of blade steels and handle materials.

Good hunting...

Fallkniven F1, or either Spyderco Perrin StreetBeat or FB01 Moran w/kydex_teklok?
I will chime in with a second recomendation for the Spyderco Moran. Anything by Brk River would be good too. If you want to go a bit smaller and more expensive, get on the e-mail list for one of Ed Caffrey's EDK's

or if you can find one and the prioces haven't gotten too outrageous, the Camillus Jerry Fisk Sendero.

One of the things I hear alot from Dozier customers is that Bob's knives feel like they were made for their hand. Our knives are more than 100.00 but they have the best edge holding quality and they are built to function. You can get on our forum and talk to our customers or just skim through the posts. These gentleman use the knives in the field so it's a great place to get information.

I am in the office daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Feel free to call me if you are interested in any of our models or have questions. I am always happy to help.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Right now I'm leaning towards the Fallkniven F1 or the Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter. Haven't decided yet.

Before you decide go to
www.ragweedforge.com
and look around.
It'll keep you busy for a while and there are alot of quality knives for under a hundred bucks.
I have an IJ1243, Swedish Army knife & Helle Jegemester from Ragnar.
(As well as 4 Doziers, if you want to make that jump up a notch)
As far as folks to deal with...It don't get much better than Ragnar & the Doziers :D

Ebbtide and Esav -

I checked out the Scandinavian knives at the Ragweed site - there are plenty of cool knives there! I especially like the Helle Fjellkniven and Harding, the Frost Clipper, and the EKA #W11 (which is probably too big for me). Whatever I get, I might wind up getting a couple of those Frost Clippers as well - how can you go wrong for $12?

You can't go wrong. A Mora or Clipper should go in every kitchen, with your fishing gear, in your car's emergency kit. Small, cheap, and reliable. When my daughter moved to her new place, I gave her a Clipper as a general purpose kitchen knife until I could get her a set of larger knives. She was amazed how sharp it was. (Fortunately, only the food got cut! :) )

The first of the modern Ahti knives is a Finnish equivalent of the Clipper and may be even sharper. The last of the Ahti offeings is a re-release of the famous Hackman "CIA" butterfly. The blade is also the equivalent of the Clipper.

Right now, I have the "Swedish Army Knife", a green Clipper in carbon steel with belt-clip sheath hanging in my kitchen. I also got the Mora 2000 from Normark (On/Scene Tactical) with his heavy-duty sheath.

One advantage of shopping at Ragweed Forge is that Ragnar himself likes knives with smaller handles, so he identifies many of them in his descriptions.

A mora 2000 with one of Normarks custom sheaths would be the hot ticket in low price/high quality field knives. I have a stainless clipper which my mom stole for the kitchen and has stood up to neglect being caked with food and the dishwasher for several months now. I really want a laminated clipper from ragweed so I might have to order one. Another hidden treasure on the ragweed site for you nessmuk fans is the double bit marble hatchet for 35$.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Right now I'm leaning towards the Fallkniven F1 or the Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter. Haven't decided yet.

Please look around some more and do your research.

I think you could do WAY better than what you are thinking of!

Definetly a fan of Ragweed Forge myself. I'm partial to fixed blades, and small ones at that...they have alot of good options.

Aeneas,

I like the two knives that you have chosen, I own the Pendleton and I like it a lot. It came scarey sharp out of the box, only thing that I changed was the sheath, I had a custom leather pouch sheath made for it. I picked the knife up last month at the Cold Steel parking lot sale for $50.00.
