Help me find a new folder

I know this isn't RAT gear specific but I want to find a new folder to replace my Kershaw Ken Onion as a go into the woods folder companion for my RC6. My Onion is a great knife but I've had it for 7 or 8 years and it's time for a new one.
I've looked at the Emerson site and have read good things about them. Maybe the Horseman, CQC 10 or the Mini Commander.
The Almar Sere 2000 seems to be a popular knife also but I've had no experience with them or the Emersons.
Spyderco seems to be a good company. I have their Police model which is a great knife for defensive carry but the point is too weak for outdoor use.
Cold Steel makes a knife called the Pendelton Ultimate Hunter which looks interesting but the handle seems a little thick and again I have no experience with this company.
I would like to keep the price under $200. Blade length between 3 and 3 3/4", lock back with weather resistant handles(seems like G10 is all the rage), fairly thin profile but not if it sacrifices strength.
I'm sure I've missed many good knives in my search and would like to hear your opinions.

Thanks,
Matt

I have an Emerson MCQC-7 and I really like it. It is well made and is in my pocket right now. The Horseman looks like a great knife and is what I was going to buy until I came here and bought an Izula.

Have a look at the Benchmade Ritter Grip, the Kershaw G-10 Tyrade, and the ZT Mudd and 0302 folders. They are all great knives that are up to the task, imo.

Spyderco military,para military,manix.

Spyderco has lots of good knives but i would recommend the military. This is a big knife with liner lock and g10 scales.
Light weight and a real cutter.Just a little shorter then the police.

I love my Military but with the FFG the tip isnt exactly "strong" and the blade is too large from what the OP said.

Ok didn't see(read) that.
So para military could be right although its not a back lock but an compression lock.;)

There's a lot of nice stuff out there for less than 200. Not sure where I would start but you said you wanted a lock back so that would narrow it down a lot.

Honestly I think you should look no further than the spyderco endura. It has a much stronger tip than the police, and the stainless steel is plenty weather resistant.

I didn't see that about a lock back. You do realize that the Emersons you are looking at are not lock backs right? I think you should expand your options to other locks.

Take a look at Benchmade axis lock models. It is by far my favorite lock.

I might be using the wrong vocabulary. I do like a knife that locks in. I don't have a particular type of lock that I prefer. I don't know that a lock is necessary and that is why I'm needing opinions on all aspects. I do my best to research a subject before asking a question but my vocabulary suffers when knife specifics are involved. The replys so far are great, exactly what I am looking for. I want to know what you like best and why. The pics are great also.

Great suggestions. I looked at most of the knives. The Zero Tolerance blades look great but so do the Benchmades and the Spydercos.
So, are the Emersons worth the extra bread? I do like their choices.
The Benchmades look nice and thin but does that have any effect on their strength?

Lots of good suggestions here but I'll throw in something a little different. Why not try out a Victorinox One Hand Trekker? That's what I usually take as a companion to my fixed blades. Opens with one hand like all the others (and locks) but also has a bunch of other useful tools. Plus you get Vic's quality and lifetime warranty, all for a lot less than many other folders buy some of the big makers.

Haven't looked into the Stretch that much but from what I've read on the Spyderco forum people seem to like it. I recently picked up a Persistence with a 8Cr13MoV FFG blade. Came very sharp and the blade is nice for slicing but I haven't use it enough to really form an opinion on how well the edge will last. Also picked up a Native III with a VG-10 blade. Out of all the folders that I have bought I can honestly say the edge on this one came SCARY SHARP :eek:. Been using it at work cutting .010 brass wire and have noticed no dulling of the edge at all so far. I can also second the Benchmade suggestions. Probably my most used EDC knife is the 556 Mini-Grip. I touched up the edge a little when I got it and it has held up great for over a year, just did a very slight touch up to it a few weeks ago. The opening on mine with the Axis lock is smoooooooooooth :p. Pics of the Native III and Persistence followed by the 556.

I carry a Kershaw Mini Cyclone all the time. It ranks up there as my all time favorite folder... ever. Also have the Cyclone, which is an excellent blade I just find it too big. Plain edge, drop point, beefy, strong, never has failed me. I think I paid $46 for mine new.

Also have a number of Bucks, KaBars and such.
