Help me find a new folder

Great suggestions. I looked at most of the knives. The Zero Tolerance blades look great but so do the Benchmades and the Spydercos.
So, are the Emersons worth the extra bread? I do like their choices.
The Benchmades look nice and thin but does that have any effect on their strength?

No. The benchmades have very thick stainless steel liners and are extremely solid. The locking mechanism has also been extensively tested and due to its design and the thick stainless steel liners the locking mechanism is really strong.

More info about the Axis Lock that Benchmade employs in many of their models: http://www.benchmade.com/about_knives/locking_mechanisms.asp

I am not just hyping these. I have 2 Benchmades with this lock and have used them extensively (the HK model I linked in my earlier post is my favorite).

I stopped buying folders after I found the Spyderco Endura 4, especially the waved version. The blade shape is great. The ergos are typical Spyderco which means they are great. It has full steel liners and a tried and true lockback. The waved model opens effortlessly with one hand, faster than an automatic. The VG-10 steel is one of the only stainless steels that I like. And best of all, they don't cost an arm and a leg.

They are pretty much the perfect mix of function and price. You can pay a lot more for a folder but you won't get much more (if any) more function.

If you're looking for a tough, inexpensive, lockback folder then look into the FRN Endura 4. I personally prefer my Para Military over my Endura 4, but there's no doubt that the Endura has the stronger tip and overall blade profile.

Honestly I think you should look no further than the spyderco endura. It has a much stronger tip than the police, and the stainless steel is plenty weather resistant.

I'm going with these guys too.

The millie and para mille would be excellent choices too, but I LOVE Endura 4s. I have 4. They have stout VG10 blades with VERY strong tips. Some give them a hard time because the grind is too thick. Personally I like it a lot. It may not be the best slicer but it is a powerful and strong cutter. Lockback is tried and true, VG10 is a fantastic steel (comparable to some S30Vs I've owned imo), great ergos and handle material (Spyderco's FRN with volcano grip is top notch), super light and thin (disappears in the pocket), comes in a few varieties of colors and blade options, great price, and a GREAT company. I like to think Spyderco is the RAT of the folding world.

I think it's a great outdoor/woods knife as well as a great EDC.

My favorites are Spyderco or Benchmade knives. I am a big fan of Benchmades Axis lock.

I'm really leaning towards the Emerson Horseman, Benchmade Griptilian with orange grip or the Spydie Endura in that order. Just don't know if the Emersons are worth the extra money. I don't mind paying for better quality, but I'm not into paying for just a name.
I need to get my hands on these knives. I think the decision would be alot easier.
Does anyone know the whereabouts of a good knife shop in the Dallas area? Really interested in Emersons and Benchmades.

No one has suggested this yet but how about a BM 710. Great knife. Its tough, has a great lock and looks good doing it. I don't think you can go wrong with this guy.

Ive used mine as my only edc for over a year and it worked great. I think you would really like this guy.
The one pictured below is my 710 which i had reground into a laser. Absolutly amazing knife now and rivals my sebenza:)

just remember that emersons have a chisel grind on their secondary bevel. Many people really don't like this, myself included.

In that price range, my favorite folders are the Kershaw JYD II with composite blade, ZT 0200 and ZT 0350. Sometimes you can find small sebenza's for not much more than that.

I like the looks of that Spyderco Persistence!
For me, if I had to buy a new folder, I'd really like an Emerson.

most of the knives mentioned are fine.
go to Knives Shipped FREE look at the mdl. #23 in buffalo horn
has a strong lock . you will need to put a more acute angle on edge.4.5 in. closed & a little heavier than the tactical knives mentioned. however if you keep 1095 blade clean, you might be amazied at the performance of this old time proven pattern. buy the single blade version.this is a strong performer.

Benchmade Ritter Grip, either in black or the new orange handle. Has the axis lock. Has been my edc for city and woods for 3 years now.

I was just looking through the dealer section on the exchange and saw knifecenter.com has some great Spyderco deals.

They have a Native 4 with VG-10 blade and carbon fiber scales for $90! Everywhere else I've seen that knife its been $160ish so you might want to look there.

+1. Chisel grinds suck.

Best places to find lots of knives to look at are the gun shows that pass through. Other than that House of Blades in Fort Worth is probably the best place to look but not buy. Pretty Expensive.
