Everything I hoped it would be.

Most knives over 300$ aren't better because they last longer, they are crafted with more precision and lend a sense of pride to owning a practical piece of art.

Seeing as the OP has already made a selection, I feel less guilty about thread drift with this post. Moreover, I am not ... AM NOT trying to get a flame going about Cold Steel, Lynn Thompson, Proof videos or anything of the sort. However, I will say that I like Cold Steel products, own a bunch of them and have been more than satisfied with their performance and extremely satisfied with their performance : price/value ratio. I also do like the triad lock and always wonder about those little springs in the Axis lock - I've already had a failure on one.

All that being said, I want to get a 4 Max. I like the style, the execution, the company, the lock ... I like the knife. So why don't I just pull the trigger? Because I have two BM Adamas knives, a user (freshly tuned, sharpened and a spring replaced by BM's wonderful customer service) and a back-up/Safe Queen. By being patient and waiting for deals to come up on the exchange I've got about $300, maybe just a tad more into both of them combined especially after figuring in shipping one to BM and their very fair fee for sharpening, etc.

For me to get a 4 Max I will have to spend about $300 +/- for just one. Will I like it better? Yes. Will I get more pride of ownership out of it? Yes. Is it a better knife? Probably. None of these factors are 200%; none of them justify twice the price - at least not for me. Will I succumb to weak moment one evening after a second cocktail and click the BUY IT NOW icon? Probably ... I just need a weak moment and a couple of cocktails to justify twice the price.

I really did want a 4Max but in Canada they are almost $600 with tax ($480US) which is just a bit less than a large Sebenza or a bit more than 4 Recon 1's in XHP. I really need to get one in my hand to check out before I would ever pull the trigger, but I am still very interested in one.

Pure cooincidence, but I've just ordered a knife from Recon 1 and I was very pleased with their customer service. I was a bit nervous about making my first knife purchase in higher end category, but they were able to answer all of my questions and help me feel like I was making a good decision so I would definetly recommend ordering from them if you were to make a online purchase. For what its worth, if you weren't able to get your hands on one of your possible top knives before ordering, I feel a Sebenza would be a safe bet for a quality folder. Full disclosure though: what I ordered was a Sebenza so I might be a little biased. I have seen numerous positive reviews from people that have extensively used them.
Another postive factor for buying a Sebenza is that there are numerous people that there is a relible secondary market that makes even used Sebenzas in high demand if you were not satisfied with it. Check out the "For Sale by Individuals" forum on here which even has a dedicated Chris Reeve section. When I was trying to find a Sebenza to buy off there it seems like most knives were sold in a hour or even less after being posted. The Sebenza I ordered has inlays and damascus so although it will a user in the EDC sense, I don't think I'll want to use it for hard use when doing yardwork etc.
Reading this forum has certainly peaked my interest in geting a 4 Max for hard use applications. I'm gonna have to look into that knife much more and compare it against my other interest, the Hinderer XM-18, which has been suggested by others. The little research I've done comparing the three knives I have mentioned, revealed that the 4 Max has the largest specs for all three dimensions of blade length, handle length and blade thickness. This makes me start to lean towards the 4 Max for a good hard use knife, but it might be too large for me personally to consider it an EDC option outside of yard work. Once I save up some more money I'll have to make a decision on which side I fall to make my hard use carry (Is HUC carry a thing...hmm) Anyways I'd say follow your gut though when making a final purchase. It is a large investment and nobody knows what you'll need or want more than you.

"6. Plasma would be the first human material Canadians would be allowed to sell.
Right now it is prohibited in Canada to sell blood, organs, tissue, sperm, eggs or embryos. Quebec has forbidden the sale of human blood or plasma, and Ontario recently passed legislation to prohibit paying blood or plasma donors."

If I could sell some blood and other bodily fluids to get knives, I would have the 4-Max already. ;)

Does it have to be my blood? Or am I allowed to sell other peoples’ plasma?

$$$$$
