now that i think about it i'm sure that's what it is, mistletoe Elm. i made my first two sets of 1911 grips out of it, fortunately my skill as a Grip maker has gotten a lot better

It sure looks quite like your grips alright.I guess i'll go with mistletoe infected Elm. ( : Customer is happy so all is well regardless.Thanks for all the help!You guys are the best!
