Title says it all, I think.

I can't take my eyes of that thing.
But I can't for the life of me imagine using it for anything.

OTOH, it's been 2000 years since the last barbarian invasion of Europe.
There's bound to be one just around the corner, right?

Who owns one of these beasts?

1 - You are going to be worm food in 5 years or 50 years. Either way, now is the time to buy yourself a sweet knife.

2 - You are helping the global economy.

3 - You may get attacked by a mastodon at 2 a.m. and need to defend yourself. It could happen.

4- Chicks dig the Espada. Everyone knows that.

everyone needs an over the top, unnecessary, bulky, ugly knife built by an over-hyped company using substandard blade steel and a design stolen from another knifemaker.

The way I look at it is this; I make the money and I can spend it on whatever the hell I want as long as the bills are paid. Besides, don't look at it as spending $250 bucks on an unecessary blade. Instead, consider the fact that you can always sell it later for most of what you have invested as long as you don't beat the crap out of it. Hell; I have several blades worth more than I paid for them, so I am actually making money. :D

I've the large (micarta/alu), now I want the XL g10, why? I don't care, it's cool and that's it !

This made me laugh out loud.

Any suggestions for an equally insane blade? I'll take a look.
Or even direct me to the guy whose design was stolen. Though I suspect it will be a custom knife maker who charges over a $ 1000.

Didn't Demko design the Espada's?

It honestly would function well as a folding machete-like chopper. Good for packability in that respect.

Get one. It's an awesome folder that everyone who sees in person wants to handle. You may want to carry a large branch though, not for batoning, but to keep all the women off you.

I have some photos that might convince you of it's ability but I'm not gonna put them on the forum, send me a pm.

Oh yeah, dang that Cold Steel stealing the design from the spanish! Crooks! mendelb, he is the designer I believe but he took his inspiration from the classic Spanish Navajas. You can google that and see the familial resemblance. Too bad more people around here can't figure out how to use google, it'd save them from eating crow.

oh, you will need to skin that mastodon after you kill it.

That's funny.Good one!:D

You know you'll get it. Why justify it, unless your married. If you like it get it and show pics of some mastodon skinning or in the skull of the trex you just defeated in single combat.

I am married, and my wife will freak when she sees that thing.
But who would argue with a man wielding a folding sword? So I guess I'm safe.:D

If the large version sold for about $120, I would get one just to have it. I do not think the price is justified for the steel used, and it seems to me like CS put all of the development money into making a nice handle. I have the Rajah II and it's cool, but all of Cold Steel's giant folders have too many drawbacks (size, weight, giving up an entire pocket) for me to seriously consider carrying one.

Edit: If you want the same basic effect for a lot less money, get the Rajah II. It's ~1/3 of the price and just a little bit shorter in blade length.

The Rajah II is on my shortlist.

I think I'm sold.

And I fully realize that the steel isn't all that.
But what knife even compares to that thing?
Gotta have it in the collection
