Help me justify (to myself) the purchase of an Espada XL

its not one on his sight and i dont have pictures, although I did see it when I visited his house.

People can say all they want about "a spanish knife is a spanish knife" but it is odd that he designs a knife and brings it to a knife show, Lynn sees it, manhandles it, and within 6 months CS releases a knife that is almost identical sizewise, shape, balance...

Apparently the overall concept of coming out with a large navaja was kicking around Lynn's head for years, and they recently posted a photo of an old prototype one on their Facebook page a while back, but it looked very little like the Espada series, so I wouldn't be surprised if he got a lot of...umm...inspiration from that one at the show. That being said, from what I understand of production timelines and processes 6 months is a VERY short span of time to get a project like that off the ground. :)

Yes, the discussion is over. Typically because the other party is either:

1) laughing hysterically; or
2) has shot you.

1) "How do you stop a clown from laughing?" Hit him in the face with an Espada.

2) because the crazy guy carrying the Espada XL wouldn't be armed with a gun just as crazy?

everyone needs an over the top, unnecessary, bulky, ugly knife built by an over-hyped company using substandard blade steel and a design stolen from another knifemaker.
What is the "standard" blade steel so we can see exactly how "substandard" AUS8 is? Apparently 420HC isn't the standard. 12C27/12C27M, 1.4116, or 1.4110 used in Bucks, Opinels, Moras, kitchen knives, swiss army knives, and dozens of designs around the world aren't the standard. What is the standard that steel manufacturers like Aichi, Sandvik, Latrobe, or Krupp can't seem to meet?
It wasn't Demko, it was Steve Hill. Yes he is a custom maker which is irrelevant.
You said it was stolen from a knifemaker, so that would seem to be relevant. Although how good a maker he is can be debated in light of the fact that he designed an "over the top, unnecessary, bulky, ugly knife"... unless CS didn't make such an accurate copy.

That is odd, mainly because 6 months from having to do a sketch from memory, prototype, finalize design, send to the overseas manufacture, create tooling, and start spitting finished models out is ridiculously odd. Then there's the 3 different model sizes to triple the work, unless you didn't mention there were 3 sitting on the show table.

Oh, and it is almost identical to the custom, which means that's a pretty s**tty custom, doesn't it.

Cold Steel didn't steal the espada designs. I know this because I designed them after studying a book on navajas. It is possible that Mr. Hill makes or has made something similar, after all navajas look alike. It went like this, Lynn said "design me 3 navajas here is a book to referance." They the design process went on from there.

Good to get that cleared up. I didn't think that whole 6 month timeframe made a lot of sense! Love your designs--keep up the great work!

1) "How do you stop a clown from laughing?" Hit him in the face with an Espada.

So what you are saying is "If you can't stop people from giggling at you (even after whipping out your brand new shiny XL from your pants)....hit them."

Have´'t you heard? Attila the Hun, Vlad the Impaler and Genghis Khan have been reborn and are planning a new conquest of the world.

I hate when they rise again, freakin' skank zombies....If it brings a little pleasure to life just buy it. B.T.W., we all have a terminal condition called old age and death. Buy it, play with it, sick of it, sell it.

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT....as so on and so forth, etcetra; etcetra; etcetra...

I bought the gun site XL years ago. It is a fun knife! I had it re-profiled and it is awesome. The look on people's faces when I whip it out(lol) is priceless!!! Btw-aus8a is a fine steel, the sub-zero with nitrogen is better, you can tell the difference in the hardness. My recon1 feels about 1% inferior to my s30v sebenza, and not because the blade.

There is no way the tolerances on the G10 version are up to snuff with the original. Just look at the shiny... you need one. Honestly there is nothing else like it, and the execution of the build is really exceptional.

I think you just emptied my bank account with that picture.

But, aren't they discontinued?

Yes, I'm an enabler. It's a great knife, and it takes an impressive photo. The aluminum models are still available as far as I know. Still on their website.
