Help me justify (to myself) the purchase of an Espada XL

There is no way the tolerances on the G10 version are up to snuff with the original. Just look at the shiny... you need one. Honestly there is nothing else like it, and the execution of the build is really exceptional.

ON AUS8-, let's be honest here; this knife is designed as a fighting knife and you will probably not be opening this thing in mixed company to cut some summer sausage. The steel is perfectly functional and even tough. So what if it doesn't hold an edge a fraction less than 154cm? Will you even notice? And when it does come time to resharpen, you'll have it back up to screaming sharp in no time with minimal effort. The classic examples with the aluminum bolsters are real lookers.

I'm game for one and waiting for it to go on sale (probably never)

My only concern is...can i also keep my 5 fingers intact?

Let's be really honest here. It's not designed as a fighting knife. It's designed to be a huge thing to whip out of your pants.

That said, I like AUS-8 a lot. It's inexpensive and takes and holds a decent edge. Perfectly functional. More than functional enough for this knife...as crom pointed out.

This made me laugh out loud.

Any suggestions for an equally insane blade? I'll take a look.
Or even direct me to the guy whose design was stolen. Though I suspect it will be a custom knife maker who charges over a $ 1000.

Didn't Demko design the Espada's?

It wasn't Demko, it was Steve Hill. Yes he is a custom maker which is irrelevant.

I have no suggestions :)

Just checked his site and saw one knife that resembled a navaja but didn't look at all like the Espada series. Got a link to any pictures? I'm curious. :)

its not one on his sight and i dont have pictures, although I did see it when I visited his house.

People can say all they want about "a spanish knife is a spanish knife" but it is odd that he designs a knife and brings it to a knife show, Lynn sees it, manhandles it, and within 6 months CS releases a knife that is almost identical sizewise, shape, balance...

I actually have no complaints at all with CS's AUS8-A, I use one a good bit and it just works. I don't know if I could justify spending a $100 bill on a Recon 1 if it had something more exotic, I'm happy they are what they are; a tough as nails, no frills, inexpensive working knife with one bad ass lock.

With this Knife may you defend Mankind from the Outer Beings who would render us... um... knifeless I guess.
