Help Me Make First ZT Purchase - ZT 0770 vs ZT 0566

OK... After all of the great discussion here and a great call with the guys at Knives Ship Free, I decided to go with...

the ZT 0801.

Although the 0770 and 0566 look awesome, and I might buy them in the future, the 0801 kept on turning up in my research. I prefer manual vs AO, and the slightly larger size of the 0801 was actually a plus for me. I am usually not so indecisive when it comes to purchasing a knife, but I think that the quality of the ZT line makes it difficult to decide on only one!

Oh yeah, I probably would have purchased a ZT 0562 if it was available.

I will post up some photos when I get the knife.

Thanks for all the feedback and photos. You guys are awesome!

You're going to love the 0801. I have one of each variation and they are easily among my favorite knives. Absolutely great flippers. I don't carry mine as much as the 0770CF because of the size/weight but the knife is a great one nonetheless. Enjoy! :)

You will love the 801 Rexford. I've had many ZTs, including the 562, and the 801 was always my favorite. It flips like it's on glass. It was the smoothest production flipper I've ever owned.

I traded it away recently in a deal for a CRK, but it's on my list to get again at some point. Congrats on a well thought out purchase, my friend.

Thanks! Although I have not received the knife yet, I have zero buyers remorse about the 0801. I am excited to get it!

You made a great choice with the 0801. Don't get mad at us if you get scolded at work for playing with the knife too much! Flipping that mother can be addictive

Great choice on the 0801. If you ever get the urge to customize it, you might check out Gnoleb's custom hardware. He may have other colors than the ones listed there too (I won a set of green anodized standoffs from a giveaway he hosted here not long ago).

The 801 is a great choice, I thought of selling mine once to fund a CZ-75 I'm after, but the 560 will probably go before it ever does.

I've owned about 5 ZT's, the 770 is the only one I've kept. /QUOTE]

I've had LOTS of ZT's and they are great knives. ALL have been too large or too heavy for my casual use. The only one I have right now is the 0770 in M390. It weighs 3 ounces. The 0566 weighs 5.3 ounces. Same blade-width. Easy-peasey.

I'll just echo everyone above, you're gonna love the 801. But will say, if anything kicks the 801 out of my pocket, it's the 770cf.... If not wearing heavy jeans and want something lighter.

I like the 566, but just cannot bring myself to love it. I ended up giving that one to my son for scout camps. If the new 566's are really not coming with the detent hole anymore, I can see why. Mine requires way too much force to fire.

Jury is still out on the 562 for me (still waiting on backorder, but have high hopes).

So does mine. But what I found is that (at least on mine) even the slightest pressure on the clip or lock will make it harder to open. If I position my hand such that nothing is on that part of the knife, then it fires fairly easily. It just takes a little practice to form the muscle memory needed to hold the 0566 differently without thinking about it when opening than I do my other knives.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

The 801 will be my next ZT and I am seriously torn to which variation. So which is your favorite? To the OP, good choice. I had an 0566 and have handled a few 0770's. To me they were more like a Kershaw than a ZT. I liked them, but not like I love my 0550 and 0561. I think you made a good choice. Now get you an 0561 before they are gone gone gone!

My favorite is the Copperhead (0801CF) mostly because it is such a strikingly beautiful knife. Then add the M390 steel & you have a real winner. Unfortunately, it is now only available on the secondary market...

Congrats on the purchase! I don't think you'll be disappointed, the 801 is a very good knife based on the time I've handled one. I just got a 0770cf myself, and I'm loving it, honestly. You can never go wrong as long as it's a blade you love.
