So, I have a 50.00 gift certificate to Bass Pro that I need to use. I went on their website, and here's what I've narrowed it down to.

Buck 303 Cadet stockman
Buck 309 whittler
Case amber bone Texas jack
Buck 55

Have a 303 and like it. A Buck whittler would be interesting. Tried a 55 and sent it back, too small a blade for the size and weight for me. Personally, hands down the Texas Jack.

I'd go with the Texas Jack, personally, but the Cadet is a nice little knife.

Thanks guys. The Texas Jack was my first thought too. I was actually surprised how nice the Amber bone is in person. I'm just half tempted to go for something out of the norm for me. Of course, most of the time when I do that, I end up disappointed.

well, i have the 309 and i love it, so that wouldnt be a bad choice
i dont have a 303, but i do have a 301 and i love it too :p, so it wouldnt be a bad choice either
cant speak for the 55, never had one so....but then hard to go wrong with buck, so PROBABLY not a bad choice either

ironically the 309 is a special case for me, i love it, i just cannot get it as sharp as my case cv, if i could maintain it easier it may be in the fight more often

They are all nice knives and I have had the pleasure of owning them all. Some for a little longer than others but I liked them all. I would suggest the Texas Jack is the best of the lot tho. The CV blades are outstanding in my experience and the secondary pen blade is the best designed I have ever used.

For me it would be a very tough choice betwen the Texas jack and the 303 cadet.

The Texas jack is a prettier knife. The 303 is a small Sherman tank of a pocket knife. Depends on what's more important to you. Either will cut what you need to cut.

Carl.

I stand at the sidelines with only information in my heart........the 309 Whittler, IS actually a model 310 Whittler that Buck put 309 blades in. The 'discontinued' 310 blades don't exist, but BPS 'special ordered' the whittler so Buck puts in the current 309 clip blade to save stamping out 310 tangs just for BPS.....FYI

Personal opinion....I would get the Texas Jack for a Sunday knife and then get a yellow delrin 303 cadet for man against wilderness blade. The black sawcuts are the toughest of the four scale types. But the yellow is a classic color........The 55 is just a mini 110 if you like that sort of thing. Ha

Hows that for being a nice guy.

Great idea Bucks!

Get one of each and you have all the bases covered. Best of all worlds.

I agree. Good call. And I don't like 110s (too freaking big), but I LOVE my 55. Classy little knife. Yellow cadet is a beast like Carl said.

Buck 303 Cadet stockman

Just travel over to Bass Pro in Arundel Mills and get all 4 :D. I love that store, I would go for one of the special edition Bucks...

The 303 Cadet is a very nicely sized stockman that is very easy in the pocket and kinda a minimalist stockman IMO. It's great for someone that feels kinda weighted down by a 301 or similar sized stockman. With that being said it's still substantial enough to get most all tasks required of an EDC knife and is a very efficient package as far as I'm concerned.

Texas jack, especially since you'll have the opportunity to cherry pick it from the ones they have in stock, ensuring you get one with acceptable fit and finish.

In my opinion it is really hard to beat the 3 blades on a stockman, it gives you 3 different blades that you can keep sharpen in almost any combination you can think of, that in and of itself gives you a lot of utility in a small package.
