Help me pick a knife

How about the Ontario navy seals issue mark 3? its got a nice waterproof sheath and the carry is very versatile, it can even be strapped to your leg, and the attachment loop is removable, made in usa
you can buy it from an Ontario authorized dealer here

http://www.knivesplus.com/QN-497-Ontario.HT

you could also try the mission mpk10-ti
its made of premium grade titanium so is fully resistant to water, versatile in carry, supposed to have some sort of quick release system, made in usa

or the bark river sandstorm, the steel they use is tested to be very waterproof in even saltwater and the knife is available in kydex.

other than those your best bet is to find a good knife you like that fits in a kydex sheath with holes and try to screw it on the molle sheath system

good luck

Another recommendation for the seal pup...Its a great knife...and if you order it with the groove sheath it has a notch designed for cutting line.

Tony, like what was already posted. Draw, something up and lets talk. I'd love to make ya a new one:D

Nick:)

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions:thumbup:

Since I am a sucker for handmade knives I decided this will be a great opportunity to own one of SDS's knife as well as a another NWA:cool:

I will draw up 2 different style knives and send the drawings in to them.

I never drew up a knife before, so this should be fun:)

Now all I need to do is save some cash, be on the look out for some more knives in the forsale forum:eek:

For my immediate needs on my fishing outings, I will use my RC-3 and my Falkniven H1. I need a kydex sheath for the H1, so Kiahs will be getting a pm rather shortly:D

Thanks again fellas:thumbup:

I think you made the right decision Tony. Nothing like a new custom (or 2) :D

If you can get.. a Graham Brothers Jackyl (S30V)!!! By far the best knife ive ever owned.. i do quite a bit of trout fishing and its perfect for all the chores!! Second would be the Ringed Razel.. and if you cant get the one from the Brothers get the one that CRKT put out!!!

Those are two knives that fit the bill

Rapid River Knife Works Fin and Feather. 3 inch 154cm blade and the handel is still a decent size.

Oops, posted before I saw you already made a decision. Enjoy the persuit of your custom.

I've only had this rig for a couple of weeks, but I love it so far.

Busse Game Warden (3" blade, and one of the best utility I own)
Leatherman Wave
Surefire G3 with Malkoff M60 drop in

The Wave has a file for sharpening hooks. In case you need it, it also has a bottle opener.

I bought the sheath from Survival Sheath Systems.

i keep meaning to get started on the stainless river knives. I have this big chunk of AEB-L and a couple 'when I get around to it" orders........

Nice knives but I'm throwing in with the Buck Woodsman, as previously mentioned. It's the knife I take out on the boat, canoe or bridge fishing, it's 4" blade in a small package the sheath design keeps the knife safe even if you wind up in the water. I own four Buck Knives I've aquired over the years and it is my favorite of the bunch.

Not expensive, practical, a great American Company, a traditional knife that has done it's job for decades, I can't even remember when I got mine maybe 20 or 30 years ago and it still looks good. I don't leave it in the tackle box and I do wipe it down and rinse it after fishing.

Heck you may even have one laying around someplace :)

I just in field & stream that you could use one of those safety letter openers with the blade inside and that works awesome for cutting mono and even braided line!

My fishing knife is a CS Finn Bear. Inexpensive, stainless and not too hard to sharpen. Sometimes I prefer my skinny Busse Game Warden as well.
Good luck with your choice Tony.

Here is a modern Buck - their Gen5 from last year. In the 3.1" drop point 420HC steel blade and charcoal birch handle variation, it comes with a great nylon sheath that can be carried horizontally on a belt - or vertically on a backpack strap. The rosewood/brass model has an upgrade CPM154 blade and a pretty vertical drop leather sheath - pretty, but not as secure/universal as the less expensive model. They range from $50-$80, with judicious shopping.

I have both, but find myself carrying the cheaper one more. Great woods-walking companion. Admittedly, I haven't cleaned any game with it, but it has been a great hiking companion. I like the looks of the CPM154/rosewood/brass version - and the looks of the sheath. In use, I don't like the checkered handle, although I can see it's necessity in fish, etc, cleaning for making and keeping a good grip when fouled. I take the less expensive one when near brackish or salty areas, too.
