Help me pick, ESEE 5 or ESEE 6. Serrated or Clip Point too?

I'm sorry but this is something you're gonna have to answer yourself.. CP is more tactical/SD, and serrated well lets just say more maintenance with a little more ability to cut rope/(seatbelt) type material faster...

seriously household chores I can find in my kitchen drawer.. but if you want a multipurpose for your given chores, why not the 3........ pending your experience you could even go Izula

Don't buy a knife you don't want, so if the 5/6 is what you want go for it!

However for the tasks listed its beyond overkill. The 5/6 is not something I could carry indoors and it will probably bother people in the supermarket depending where you live. For someone like me its use is limited almost entirely to camping or a BOB, I can't even see me taking it on a bike trip.

So, for general awesomeness, the 5. For the utilities you posted Izula with scales or the 3

Be sure to let us know....and add pics:D

I like all the ESEE knives, but for me the 6 (drop point, plain edge), the 3Mil, and an Izula have me covered 100%. IMO, the 6 is the one I'd chose above all others, but it was my first love......

Reading over this thread it seems you really want a "badass" knife. If you feel you really, really need it, then buy it. I agree that a 3 or an izula would be far better suited to the tasks you listed, not to mention lower cost. Sounds like you need someone to tell you its ok to buy a 5 or 6 so, its ok man. Get what you like! Just a pic for size reference:

For everything mentioned in the OP except backyard whacking, I'd get a 3 or HEST. For that I'd buy a cheap Corona, Condor, or Tramontina machete. The largest ESEE I have is a 4. I have an old RAT-7 from when they were with Ontario, but it almost never gets used. Bigger than a 5-inch blade is just too cumbersome for most of my uses, and thicker than maybe 0.20" is too thick almost always. For my uses. Which are largely the same as those in the OP.

I bought a 6 from TKC close to 3 months ago. I sure am glad I did! The 6 is a bit longer than the 5, but the 6 is lighter to carry, and I found out in a test you can stand on it when its stuck 3ins. in a rockface. (I used to work the badlands, and this was done to many blades, before the flack comes :D) So the 6 is way more than strong enough+ it will take down any of those tree limbs, *or larger* with no probs. I took a long look at both, and the slimer easy carry of the 6 won out over the 5. I just can't think of a need for that thick of a blade. If I want thick, I'll just use my Junglas. edgy:thumbup:
Oh very sharp nix the serrations.

Man get the 6 and don't worry about the knife turning on you for small jobs. I have the 4 and 6 never need the 4 and gave it to my wife. The 6 is the most capable user friendly knife there is.

That is a good final choice pairing a 5 (or 6 if you went that way) along with the Izula is a great combo. You have all the tasks you wanted a ESEE for coverd. I just hope you ordered online and got cheaper prices than your local store. Enjoy.

Look forward to pictures of your purchases, or at LEAST impressions of them once you get them. Good choices. When it all comes down to you parting with your money, you should get what you want, and it sounds like you have.
