Help me pick my 1st sebenza

Think about going with a plain Sebenza to start off with. There is beauty in the simplicity of the plain Sebenza. Then graduate to an etched or an inlay. FWIW.

Exactly my thoughts...I know I will have more than one...these sebenza's make me weak. I'm going to start with a small regular. Thanks for the good advice!

Ok...It's done...small regular on the way...counting the days! Thanks everyone for your input. I think the 1st one must be the hardest to pick. Later this year I'll get a large seb of some sort. That should be much easier.

So far, the small, plain classic is my favorite. I love the simplicity.

I was very torn between the regular and the classic...I think I like the classic more when it has inlays or graffics...but the regular plain does it for me. I looked at pictures for hours before choosing. I know there is a classic in my future as well. These sebenzas are a marketing dream...who can buy just one or two for that matter. I am not a big consumer and don't own many knives at all...just what I think I need. But these things are beautiful...I am totally sucked in...I will have at least 4-5 before I'm done.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a Sebbie. Like you I look at the pictures endlessly. Which one? What was it that decided to go with the regular? Guess I'll just to handle both of them and go with my gut. Right now I'm leaning toward the regular because it looks, well, different.

The regular is my favorite as well. Same EDC as me...small regular. Good choice!

I just placed an order for a small classic sebenza too - my first CR too.

Agonized over pictures for ages & finally pulled the trigger yesterday.
Hope it arrives soon!

Cheers,
-Darryl

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive...should be tomorrow. I went with the regular for 2 reasons; #1 I like the looks of it with plain ti better, and #2 they (CRK) must have thought the regular was an improvement in the evolution of the sebenza. I think I read somewhere that most at CRK carry the regular also. That's got to mean something, right. It would be nice to see a poll from owners of both styles, which they prefer.

Mtrunner - was following your thread really closely as to what you'd end up buying... :)
I read all the posts in the CRK forum, and ended up ordering the thinnest sebenza I could, since I am planning on using it as a EDC. I even got the clip insert... :)

I'll post pictures when I get it...

Cheers,
Darryl

You mean buying first right...I don't think I can stop after just one. LOL. Good luck with yours!

Thanks for your replys...very helpful. I'm leaning towards the small classic with desert ironwood inlay. My plan is to buy a large sebenza later this year...that will be another big decision...so many great models to pick from. So, I agree, there will be times I will want carry a large. But, for EDC, I think the small is the way to go. Now to pull the trigger and join the sebenza club...finally.

I EDC a large classic with cocobolo inlays. It handles perfectly in every way. I find it's grippy enough and I like the size all round.

You will be happy with the iron wood. Go for it.

Cheers
Frank

I think you'll like the simplicity of the plain regular (or classic). I EDC a plain small regular double lug Sebbie with a small micarta classic for B/U. My wife carries a small classic dog paw. We've both put everything else back in their boxes (except my SnG... that one still hangs around with me for "dirty" work).

I've carried my small regular since Dec 22 and still have no noticable damage to blade or handle slabs in spite of her seeing use in warehouse, home, and hiking environments. Of course... I don't carry anything but a knife in my knife pocket... never have... and I carry deep in pocket, not clipped.

So, If you carry deep pocket, have you removed the clip? Do you find that a large might be useful ever? What is the SnG? I don't recognize that one. And since you have both a regular and a classic, which do you prefer? Lots of ? I know, sorry.

No... I leave the clip on. When I'm in a choir robe at church I clip my knife to the top of my shirt so I can get it in a hurry... in case the preacher stops preachin' and starts meddlin' :D

I also have a large classic dog paw Sebbie from Plaza Cutlery that I carry in its slip case or in a belt sheath when I want a larger Sebbie-type blade, usually when I'm dressed up for something. But, as it was a Christmas gift, and it has the identity disks of all my dogs attached to the lanyard, I'm a little protective of it.

I have found that the small flat sided Sebbies have better ergos for me if I stick to the regular model. OTOH, the small classic micarta that I just got in a trade feels fine in the small size... go figure ! On the large Sebbies, it doesn't matter to me whether the handle is classic or regular as far as comfort.

An SnG is a Strider folder, not a CRK product. I just mentioned it offhand as the only part of my current daily carry that isn't CRK.

I EDC a large Classic with Cocobolo wood inlays. I was hesitant at first about getting a large, but then I handled the various models and had to have a large. Personally, I liked the Classic's lines and ergonomics much more than the Regular, but other folks favor those too. I carry mine in the back pocket of my suit pants and slacks, next to my wallet, as well as in jeans and the size is NOT a problem. Love the look of the inlays and they actually aid a bit in gripping control, even though they are smooth. I like the Sebbie so much I no longer carry my Spyderco, Benchmades, or Microtechs anymore (and those are excellent knives). I do think about getting a small, just for fun -- not because the large is too much -- I just want both. Don't worry, you can't make a bad decision, and you can always sell it close to cost. Good luck.

I'm sure I will own a large classic wood inlay at some point...they sweet!

I'm sure you'll enjoy your choice.

Just remember that the fact you've choose a plain version, doesn't mean it must remain "plain"... you still can drill it, sand it, filework it, color it, engrave it, and so on... making it a thrully custom one.

Post some pics when you get it ...

Regards.
