Please Help Me pick a Bushcraft Knife,
I know this is a pretty general category, but I have allot of knives that many would put in this category (Sub 4" Fixed Blades), I own a Rat 3, Falkniven F1, Busse SCABS, Jeff White Custom English Patch, and Many Moras. But I am looking for something that is more traditional, with a Scandi grind, Full Tang, simple steel to sharpen in the field, comfortable handholds in many positions, and something that comes with a sheath.

I am open to Customs and Production, but I don't want to wait too long to get this, the weather is getting better, my Buget is $200, I have been looking at the new Spyderco Bushcraft in G-10 and have found it for $160, looks pretty good, but any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Just to explain how I use my knife, it will be used for carving, woodwork, battoning, not much food prep, maybe gutting the occasional fish. I usually carry an ax or a saw for the real heavy work, I like to save weight, and be compact.

Thanks in advance for your help

Just as an Asside, I just ordered the Falkniven DC4 whetstone to sharpen this (yet to be purchased) knife in the field, was this a good choice? Is there something better?
I have been using a small strop, but for extended use I think this will be better, especially on the Scandi grind

condor bushcraft basic series

Do you think this is a better knife than the Spyderco Bushcraft?
It looks like a very good value, but aesthetically it's a bit boring, just my opinion.

Also, it has a Convex edge.

Hmm, for the knife part how about looking up some custom Puukkos? Very comfortable handles and beautiful craftsmanship, for the most part ;)

I personally dont care for fällknivens stones, but i hope it works for you.

I also hope you have some good benchstones to maintain that scandi grind :D

Edit: Zanuha got it first, puukkos are the way to go man!

200 bucks should buy you a great puukko.

Thanks, what brands or makers would you recommend, bearing in mind that I don't want to wait too long.

I dont have any real knowledge about good makers, i seem to forget their names:p but 99% of the best puukkos come from Finland, so thats a start:p
The puukkos i have owned, used and handled have all been made in Sweden and Finland, the Fins just seem to make that knife a whole lot better than anyone else.

I carry and use a DMT diafold Coarse/Fine "in the field "and it works awesome, i have been thinking about getting one in Fine/Extrafine as well.

I'll suggest the kellum wolverine. Don't have one yet but have heard good reviews of it. Looks like a great knife.

The BHK Boat Tail Scandi would fit the bill nicely as would the Entrek Forester. Both are full tang and have scandi grinds and fit the hand perfectly in a variety of grips.

My favorite bushcraft scandi was made by B.G. Andrews with my wood for scales. 5/32 O-1 and mesquite. Great ergonomics in a TUFF knife that is in your budget. Sometimes you see his work on the Exchange here.--"Off the Map" outfitters.--KV

What do you all think about the BCNW-O1 as a good option?

I've been wanting to get a BCNW-O1 myself, but they won't be available 'til sometime in May. It's very similar to the Entrek Forester, except it has a slightly thicker O1 steel blade and bamboo scales. The Spyderco Buchcraft would be a good option too, but I just have difficulty with the idea of spending $160 plus on a knife made in Taiwan when you can get you can get a semi-custom knife made in the USA for under $160.

I am leaning towards the puukko design, BCNW-O1, but I also like the Entrek Forester, but the BCNW seems more refined, and other Puukkos that compete well with these?

i have a boat tail scandi im looking to sell, but personally I would highly suggest a enzo trapper d2 or o1, I have the d2 version and its by far my favorite knife right now, i'll pick up an o1 sometime soon too. really a great knife, a little thinner than the f1 but still a tank and a much much better slicer.
