Hey there...so I've successfully sold off a few knives in order to fund a purchase. I was looking to get my hands on a first Damascus 21. I need some help making a decision. I mostly carry small 21s, the occasional large and the rare mnandi. I've got a few inlays, large and small, cf and some plains. No mammoths!
I've been presented with a few options...

The first is a large box elder that shares my wife's birthdate. I have 2 large box elders already, and I really prefer ladder or raindrop but this one is beautiful. The next 2 are small ivory, and the non Damascus is about $200 less than the Damascus.
The perfect knife would be a small darker wood ladder like maybe a snakewood or even spalted beech, but they would have to be purchased new.
I just know i won't come across an ivory every day, and was always curious.

Whatcha guys think? Help a fella make a decision...the PayPal balance is burning a hole in my iPhone case!

Wouldn't it be illegal for you to buy one of the ivory ones, being in NY?

A locking folder is illegal all together, but whatever

I didn't want to suggest for you to break the law, but it appears that any suggestion would be doing so?

I don't know anything about legality of ivory in NY, but if you can buy it legally, I'd say ivory. Probably Damascus cuz why not go all out? The mammoth is discontinued by CRK so it will only get harder to find. You'll be able to find all sorts of woods no problem later.

Is Damascus really all that? I'm so curious, and I've only seen 1 in person at my local crk dealer (hour and a half outside of the city) it was cool but on a regular titanium

That's subjective. Personally I think it adds a huge gorgeous factor. But get what speaks to you. Although knowing now that you can't legally buy/own a locking knife in NY, I'd say move first then buy it. :p

Ivory and NY don't mix well.

I don't agree with it, but it seems the penalties can be pretty stiff.

Is the mammoth bark worth $100 more than the same knife in ivory?

PS - I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but you'd be potentially opening up the seller to consequences if you purchased ivory (or mammoth) from them, and they shipped it to NY. So while you might be willing to break the (lame) law, it's not cool for you to possibly cause someone else to unknowingly do so as well. ;)

I would have it shipped to my in laws in jersey

Check these out

That Damascus is absolutely stunning, but I was never really interested in the graphics on Sebbies, even though I almost purchased a tanker when visiting the store.
