My buddy passed recently, he left me with a bunch of stuff, one of the stuffs was a Loveless knife.

Can you help me ID it, age, type, quality, etc. Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance...sorry for poor photos

Thanks for the link. I have looked around on other websites but I can't seem to find a picture equals the one he had. I'll keep looking and hopefully others will post.

It looks like it was used...

Wonderful! :)

Yes, Levine or one of the very knowledgeable people here should be able to help out.

I am going to move this over to the custom forum.
There are some folks there who can help you get going in the right direction.

It's valuable, but not over the top. Condition and style play a constant role.

Good that you have the sheath. That's solid. Is it signed on the back or with his stamp?

Complete guesstimate of value: $2500-$3000? Dave Ellis would offer a closer guess.

Lawndale mark = Older piece. Bolster material does not look like SS. Probably nickel or brass?
Quality: All Loveless knives are made with quality. This particular knife is a user. Quality: compromised by age and use for resale or collectibility, not at all for usage.

Just some guides. I hope I am close.

Looks like an early Lawndale Stamp. My guess is early mid 60's. There are guys here who will not be guessing ;).

edited to add: I think Jim is correct on the value. It would be great if you could get a closer shot of the logo.

Cool that it may be from the 60s!!!! The sheath is not signed nor is the knife numbered. The knife was in an box of his camping stuff, so I am pretty sure it got used...but to me (a non knife expert) it does not look that used, well at least compare to the ones I use while camping.

Thanks for the replies thus far all!

What a cool find:cool:
I wonder if your buddy picked that up at some gun show for 60 bucks, way back when.
Pretty cool heirloom.

I find it interesting that you haven't asked for an estimate of its value, yet you have received a few guesses. What do you think you'll do with it?

"Way back then," $60 was an AWFUL lot of money. I doubt that it cost even that much when it was new.

Congratulations on a real find here - you've got something special.

Needs a quick cleanup, which I am sure that Jim would be happy to do....due to the mark, and stag, this piece is worth more....not sure how much more, but could be around $4,000, retail.

Best Regards,

I was quite surprised too with the low estimates above. $4,000 would indeed be a fair price, considering the latest prices I've seen.

Not your garden variety Loveless hunter. Wouldn't be surprised if there's someone who would pay $4000 or more. The considerable wear shows the owner has gotten good use out of this piece over the years, thus my lower GUESS.
It doesn't seem the new owner plans to sell so not sure the monetary value is important.

Dave and AG could no doubt offer good information.

You have a unique Loveless that I'm sure you will be very happy to own, no matter what the worth is, which I would guess would be a a rather large sum.

I think it is VERY cool to see a knife like this that has been used. Interesting that the stitching on the sheath was not so precise?

Peter

when you got this knife, was it in its sheath?
