It all depends on what you do and what you need. If you have your bases covered then asking us for recommendations without an immediate need is like putting a kid in a candy store and daddy yelling no candy kid. However, if you are well traveled handgun hunter, a TC in .375 JDJ would have some really smack down power and be a hoot to shoot. However, because it is a wildcat you would likely have to handload it or befriend a handloader. If you are not a handgun hunter, then it would be too much for anything in the eastern USA and would end up being an expensive novelty. I don't know what your trail gun needs are but a great woods gun and all-rounder would be a Glock G20 (10mm). It has plenty of capacity and enough knock down power for most reasonable applications. The terminal ballistics are impressive when you handload but if you don't check out the loads from Underwood, Double-Tap, and Buffalo Bore for real 10mm velocities/energies. All in all, the ten is somewhat esoteric but it has a cult like following because it is accurate, has good stopping power and the recoil while present is manageable. There are a host of other had gun choice that have come out this year and some are extremely light weight and compact. These might be excellent choices for CCW. Let us know where the path takes you.

Theres one the left of the table...

Well, its a DSA par SA58. So, Its close.

The one in the closet is going to ASHBY Arms today:D

I figure you like some double trigger goodness:cool:
....OK... you may retain said Man Card. The Para FALs are great, a mate in NM has an all Imbel one that I have put many rounds through and to be honest, he has to pry it out of my hands each time we have finished...!!!! My favourite version is of course an L1A1 :D SSGs !!!!! Nice... in fact I am just working on mine this weekend. Adding a MKIV Leupold to it ;) I have a new triggerguard assembly (steel) that accepts AI magazines as well. It needs to be milled for the set triggers yet and my Gunsmith is still waiting on the cutter to do the job...hopefully it will be back in around a month (he is away for the next three weeks on vacation). Good taste mate ...good taste.... :D

Allrighty Garth, you asked for it Brother... ;)
If I were just jonesin' for a new firearm and had some cash to throw at it, I would buy a Sako TRG 42 in. 338 Lapua with the Green stock faster than you can say Skelly Key!

Oh yes, some day it will be mine! :D

If you go with the 338 Lapua, you will definitely need to handload as the ammo is very expensive and the ammo is not a regular offering at gun shops even those selling the rifles. Also, how close are you to a 1000 yard rifle range? If you don't have access to one then you are better off with a different caliber.

Personally I'd stay away from a 338 Lapua. For the price of ammo, you can shoot a 50BMG. .338s often are barrel burners where the life of them are 800 rounds until accuracy decreases.

If you want to get a long range rifle that's not a 50, then look at a 416 Barrett or one of the Cheytac rounds, or one of the many wildcats designed by JD Jones.

A rifle that kind of has that cool factor is a Noreen, I had to work on one and test fire it, it was just .30-06 but it was pretty damn fun. That's a side story though

This isn't a picture of my actual gun obviously but my most recent major gun purchase was a Smith Performance Center 627. 8 rounds of .357, trigger like melted butter, 5" barrel, gold bead front sight. Deadly accurate. I highly recommend it.

I agree with m67. 338 lapua isnt worth the cost. You can step into a 50 cal for roughly the same cost. But if you didnt want to make that step I would go with 338 improved. Its a spin off of the 338 lapua but it has better ballistics. Of course if you wanted to let the sack drag you could go custom to a 338 snipe-tac. Sexy as f***.

Steak just got here. Catch up with later.
