What?!? You are not even making sense anymore. Who bought the paring knives for who? And what about the set of Opinels you were going on and on about?
My parents bought the paring/filet knives for my uncle, and I got my mom an opinel #6.

My parents are really inconsistent with this stuff man haha

There's an old saying..."The nut doesn't fall very far from the tree." Explains this continuing Swiss cheese like story.

Duracoat will be fine. it will probably cost more than the knife is worth now or cost originally.

W&C is a sub forum called whine and cheese. I was suggesting that the thread was moved to that forum, based on the fact that I was not sure that your original post was legitimate.
Well then... Thanks I guess lol. No I'm not whining, I just asked a simple question if I could duracoat a Spyderco Tenacious, and for some reason you guys aren't really answering my question.

I think you will find out soon enough what it is.
Just found out lol... I knew what the whine and cheese forum is, just not the abbreviation. So I guess you guys are suggesting I'm a troll? I just want to know if you can duracoat a Spyderco Tenacious.

Really?

Every year at Christmas my (extended) family does a sort of secret Santa gift exchanging thing. This year I got my uncle who is really big on fishing. He asked for a knife that he could use out on the boat for everything. My parents, not knowing exactly what it was he wanted, got him a cheap filet knife from a Walmart.

Apparently the cheap fillet knife turned into paring/fillet knives along the way.

No, we aren't really butting heads anymore, and I'm fine with getting rid of the Tenacious, but seriously, we're having a talk about me being able to use knives when all I want is to know if duracoating one (which my dad has already okayed) will make it useful on a fishing boat. If someone would answer that it would be greatly appreciated

It will only protect the part of the blade that is coated. If care isnt taken the edge can quickly degrade as will any exposed steel parts. Like the lock. Plus once the coating gets scratched it can rust from that point. I honestly would get him some tuff glide tuff cloths and just instruct him on proper knife maintenance. But I also would be using a fixed blade on a boat.

Really?

I also noticed that the "cheap" fillet knife was $60. Also walmart has to be the easiest place to return anything.

Any suggestions for something cheaper? And I don't appreciate you talking crap about my parents. All I ask is for you to answer a question, not to start a whole bunch of drama.

Yes. You can dip the blade in Rust-Oleum too.

Now you're twisting my words. They're fillet knives, I just accidentally called them paring knives. Just chill out man. You answered my question, so thanks, but now you're starting all of this drama again.

Alright thanks for such a good answer. He hunts, and I'm sure he'll have some Rem Oil, so that should work, right?

So. According to you they don't like knives. They think they are weapons. And they don't want you around them. But they keep the Tenacious around, and they bought your uncle a knife that will sit around the house (and you) until Christmas, but they changed their mind and want to give him a beat up Tenacious (that you weren't supposed to use), and they are going to let you Duracoat it sometime between now and Christmas.

You just keep diggin' this hole, don't you? Not buying any of it. Really, its time to hit the Reset button and come back with a question that is believable while there is still time to do that. And there really is.

For now, I call shenanigans.

But this thread is the best ever if you look at it as part of a series. I read pretty much the whole previous thread last night, which helps (good advice there by the way). It was a fun read and now we're already getting the sequel.

Will they, won't they, what will happen next? This is great stuff.

But seriously, not having much experience with filet knives despite my love of fish (I use a Mora), $60 does not seem like a cheap, breakable filet knife. I would assume it's probably a decent one, Wal-Mart or no.

OP: I don't usually poke fun but I couldn't resist this time.

I was young when I got into knives too. I started out on "the other knife forum" asking some naive questions, ticked a few people off. My parents were always cool with my interest in knives, but I had other problems too. They didn't let me watch movies where ladies showed lady parts. It was pretty annoying. But, trying to go behind their backs to view lady parts was not appreciated by them, for some reason.

I love knives, but if my mum was going on about how big a disappointment I was, the way yours was, it wouldn't be worth scarring that relationship when I'd be able to purchase what I want in a few years. I don't necessarily fully agree with her stance, but I don't have to, because she's a parent.

Lol yeah I'm fifteen, I just put my age as older just in case there were age restrictions haha

And here is the crux of the problem your parents have and we have here. You are not honest. You went behind your parents back. You came in here, didn't read the rules, cursed up a storm, and now your are lying about your age.

You clearly still don't get it.

If/when I say anything about your parents, you would be justified in being upset.
You just said the nut doesn't fall far from the tree when I told you they're inconsistent with how they view knives. So yeah. You were kinda saying stuff about them.

Sorry man, that isnt twisting words. You did call them paring knives. A story that lack continuity and consistency will usually be questioned. We are very much a detail oriented bunch of knife knuts. You also stated a cheap fillet knife. Now it seems there is more than one.

The box says surgical stainless on it, so I think that they got ripped off big time.

I am honest. I did not purposefully go behind their back, I just had a lapse in judgement and did something stupid. They have since forgiven me. It was completely my fault on the cursing, and have learned my lesson, and have since not cursed at all. And honestly, why should I put my real birthday on the internet? And to be blatantly honest it isn't any of your business when my birthday is.

Wait...so you're telling me that Bill woke up from his coma and nobody told him Lacy married another man?? Find out next week on Days of our Knives!

That's certainly possible but not necessarily true.

Case uses "surgical stainless steel" and they are in general excellent middle of the road knives (and when I was a kid, considered fairly high quality by the men in my family).
