Help on new Edc Benchmade or spyderco

I dunno. I have a Manix 2 and like it, but why not a Military? It doesn't really carry any bigger than the PM2 and it's got a bit more blade. Fun knife!

On the other hand, maybe if we had some idea what you do at work with your knife it might help just a little (probably not, but you never know). If you're cutting carpet, for example, we might suggest something different than if you are slicing open plastic bags of parts, or popping zip ties (oh! the conversations that will flow out of that!), or cutting banding on pallets.

I'm a fan of the Yojimbo. I have one. I tend to carry most everything in the right rear pocket, so "pocket space" really isn't an issue for me and the way I do things. YMMV. I'm familiar with only a few of the Benchmade products, but I wonder why the Griptilian wouldn't be considered? It's a fine knife, though possibly not sexy anymore, and can be had for around a hundo.

On the other, other hand, why bother with an expensive work knife when there are so many really excellent knives at a lower price? Case in point, I have an Ontario Rat 1 in my back pocket as I type this. Nice big blade, beautiful flow through design with pillar construction, G10 scales, decent AUS-8 steel blade. Can be had for maybe $30. Buy three if you like, but you aren't going to break it at work.

Another possibility from what I can see is the Endura. Slightly smaller than the Military, slimmer than the PM2 but with a bigger blade. Can be had in great steels like ZDP-189 or Super Blue. Comes in various colors. You can even get it with an Emerson Wave, if you are inclined in that direction.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a ZT fanboy myself, so I tend to carry mostly Zero Tolerance knives, which would be great to have at work, though they'll generally cost a bit over your budget. However, I'd like to recommend another Spyderco to your attention. The humble Native5. It simply rocks. Great ergonomics, great blade shape, great steels (S30V or S35V or S110V) and all for roughly your budget. It's one of my favorites.

All of these knives you list are great knives. Have you ever considered the new Benchmade 583sbk tanto with the safety lock, 154cm steel and that Lifesharp warranty. Me personally I carry a Strider SMF and a Spyderco Manix 2 LW...But that new 583sbk is nice and I just so happen to know where you can get one for $100 plus shipping. Email me at surefirecolt6940@gmail.com if you'd like.

Sounds like a job for the Spyderco Manix 2 in S110V

Totally back this

Great ergos, strong lock, good amount of blade and lightweight!

How about the Benchmade hk axis? Ain't the prettiest but you said work knife and 100$ budget.

Thank you guys all for the input btw.

My job is a auto mechanic and I also do some light carpentry work. I usually always have my small sebenza 21 or my odkw or something along those lines in my pocket to just fondle I always use them for task like opening mail or boxes or anything lighter but in my work I find a lot of times needing to use my knives harder. Or in quick situations with super oily gloves it's hard to grab a perfectly shiny clean sebenza and abuse it sometimes. I'm really leaning on the 710 I'm thinking. My only thoughts are the non coated d2 blade. I have a blackout brous reloader and along the edge has grew some rust spots where it's not coated. Does this happen with the Benchmade d2 as well

And nobody else have any input on the volli haha I thno I'm the only one who likes that blade. All I've done is play with it at a store and it felt great but I wonder how the blade is once you de assist it

The Volli works fantastic de-assisted! I don't understand why they make any of the axis lock folders assisted, they work much better in my opinion without it. At least as fast to open and a whole lot faster to close.

Mine is up for trade/sale right now, PM me if you're interested.

If he is not interested, I might be. BTW, How hard is it to de-assist?

If you like assist go for it. I hear mixed things on it being de-assisted

Benchmades are all a little trickier to tear down and rebuild because of the axis lock, but other than that it was a simple matter of removing a coiled spring. Pretty easy.

I can't imagine what negative things you've heard from deassisting the Volli, it works beautifully just like any other axis lock.

Sabre Cat feel free to contact me.
