igotstabbed, arent you the guy who told another forum member not to buy a spyderco for self defense because an attacker could use the spyderhole to break the OP's thumb???

Any knife wound can be horrific and, at a minimum, life altering. If you are attacked by someone with a knife and don't have a gun, carry pepper spray and always backup while spraying - you will get an opportunity to run. If you can carry a gun, do so. Attacked, still back up while drawing - and shoot quickly - and repeatedly. Never fight a knife wielding thug with a knife - or try to disarm him - you will lose.

I have the good fortune of living in Alabama, where I can get a CCL and carry, legally, a handgun for the protection of my wife and myself in public. It came in handy one day, nearly two years back in a newly opened department store, and, since then, I don't go anywhere - even to the store or church - without one.

All of my life, I often carried a decent sized knife while hiking in the woods - more for my protection from four legged beasts, admittedly a small threat in this area. It was not the best weapon to defend one's self from a feral hog - or bobcat - but it was something. Sadly, the threat in the woods became two legged predators, and now a CCW is required. The Buck 110 gave way to a Kershaw or Benchmade - something more easily presented - but not a defender against a two-legged predator - that drove me to carry a firearm. YMMV. No legal firearm carry? Get the highest strength pepper spray and carry it in hand in areas where threats are likely. Be safe.

Stainz

PS Buy the knife you like - and carry it - as a tool.

Yes, I have a reputation here.:D

And it most certainly is not one to be proud of.

For those unaware, the above quoted poster told somebody that a Spyderco Military, used defensively, could result in a broken thumb because, you know, the attacker would grab the knife and use it as leverage to snap the users thumb. Yeah, you read that right....
