Help pick my next knife!

I'll second the adamas mini. I can't believe it took so long for someone to make this knife. Please with the cruwear and the action. Blade shape is do it all.

yeah man, love the drunken, spydiechef, would really like to find a slysz bowie. i could definitely watch for a used drunken. cheers!
I did not care for the spydiechef design at first. Then I saw what the knife was made for, and figured I'd give it a shot. What a great knife. The blade is super slicey with all that belly, and the knife is so thin it just disappears in your pocket.

I love my umnumzaan, and starting to really enjoy my new sebenza as well. If you're a fan of CRK knives at all, the spydiechef is very similar feeling in my opinion.

The Spyderco Swayback is a nice knife and you can usually get them here for around $200. That would be my choice from your list. The GB1s are nice too if you can find them.

yeah the swayback is a sweet package for sure. not crazy about xhp but its a nice knife and I don't have any wharnies yet. loving the mayhem titanium here https://www.knifecenter.com/item/SP...e-blade-chaotic-evil-chidori-titanium-handles

yeah any thoughts on maxamet over s90v or s110v? is practical edge retention better with maxamet or about the same?
i *like* stainless but its dry as hell here in Colorado so not super necessary, i dont do a lot of wet work.

I do find Maxamet to have notably better edge holding than those two steels, which are both very good to begin with. It's pretty wild stuff. It does take diamonds and some skill/patience to sharpen, but it deburrs as well as anything.

Another option that might be worth a mention is a G10 Manix 2. Might take a little tuning but can be nice and slick. Also available in S110V.

yeah the sinkevich style curves have definitely grown on me. i do really like that knife but how is the lc200n other than being 100% stainless? edge retention is meh?

Yeah good feedback! I have the worksharp Ken onion power sharpener which is effing awesome. I haven't run anything over $100 through it yet as I'm still getting the hang of it. It's pretty easy to get scary shaving sharp on anything though and I know they make diamond bands for it. It's tricky to get into the base of blades like on the tenacious that have no sharpening choil, and tricky to keep it even while curving from belly to tip, but I'm looking forward to learning it better. Mostly it's nice for making the edge so fast! And I like that it's a natural convex edge.

Manix 2 s100v is a good call, I like the design and lock idea. And I saw an s110v lightweight in that dark blue frn too which looks badass.

The lightweight Manix is a great knife. You can tune them to be about as good as the G10 version, but the G10 ones do have a more satisfying feel/sound, if that's a top concern. I usually carry a lightweight version, lots of performance for the weight.

is the difference just the weight/bulk of the g10 or is the skeleton different on the lightweight too? it is a concern i guess, I am looking for something that feels really nice, but in general i think i prefer frn to spyderco's rough textured g10 with the more square/flat corners. not actually even sure if the LW manix has the nice rounded contoured edges like the para 3 LW.

The LW Manix is linerless. None of the Manix models have rounded edges like the Para 3s do. The G10 Manix has steel liners, which probably makes most of the difference in action feel/sound. I haven't measured handle thickness of both versions but by eye they are very close to the same.

gotcha, yeah that makes a big difference, thank you!

Not on your list: the Spyderco Sage 1 Maxamet and upcoming PITS, the Ritter RSK Mini, and from your list: the Gayle Bradley 1/2, Swayback, Spydiechef would be my picks.

I like some elements of the sage lineup, not sure that one is for me but will keep it in mind. not sure about the PITS, I'm only seeing an older discontinued stainless slip like here, is that right? https://www.knivesplus.com/spydercopitsfoldersp-c192tip.html

mad props on the ritter RSK mini rec, would consider the full size RSK too actually. those are some sharp looking knives and solid AF. definitely on the list!

cheers on the GB 1/2, sway, and chef, those are all strong contenders still too. sh*t i thought this was going to help but may actually be giving me too many options haha. i'll have to do a nice official reveal when the chosen piece comes in!

M4 is tough, but not very tough. It provides enough toughness to make it standout as a tougher steel for folders (tougher than M390, S35VN, etc). It's not as tough as something like 3V, CRUWEAR, 1095, etc.

M4 has very high edge retention to boot, and is not a chore to sharpen, which is a big bonus. It stains easy.
1095 doesn't belong in that comparison. Done right, M4 is significantly tougher than 1095, especially if you try to compare the higher end of the hardness sprectrum.

The Southard is a knife I always wanted but just never got. Now they are harder to find.

Just for something different, pick up one of the Spyderco models mentioned in S110V. It's an interesting steel. Popularity seems to have been on the decline for a while and you never know if it will get phased out on a particular model.

On the other end, MagnaCut is slowly working its way into production knives. If nothing else, it'd be a great excuse to try a Hogue Deka.

You are correct, 1095 loses a little toughness to M4. In my mind I'm thinking "carbon steel" = overall tougher and used a bad example.
