Help please! Soldered screws of soft metal in Survival Sheath System

Well *I* am the last person to defend Robert H as I too had an ordinary experience a couple of years ago with him and a sheath for my RTAKII. If you refer to his long closed forum here it was as the issues worsened and worsened. I will say his communication sux BUT he does stand behind his product and I found him to be anything but mocking, after a long wait the first sheath arrived and as well made as it was, did not fit my RTAK too short and the point of the blade protruded through the joint at the bottom. I too pictures and e-mailed them to Robert. He acknowledged the issue and made me a new one (that was 100%), he DID NOT require the faulty sheath to be returned or me to incur any additional costs. All it took was some pictures and an explanatory e-mail. I would not use him again as his communication and production times are out of whack for a kydex product. BUT I can't say he didn't care about or stand by his product (even when it is here in AUSTRALIA).

Once you threw a tanty mate and binned the sheath without pictures or contact with the maker you lost the high ground.

Agreed.

This thread is the equivalent of trying to baton a mora though a brick and then complaining that the manufacturer didn't tell you not to baton through a brick.

If you can't get the screw out using normal force, don't try to use even more force to force it out. What did you think was going to happen?

And throwing out the sheath because you stripped the screws is like buying a new car because your old one got a flat tire. Screws are so cheap and easy to replace there is no reason to scrap $100 worth of product for that

Im not vested in this in anyway, but from my experience, Robert H. has always produced top shelf gear. I find it very strange that you would throw the rig out in the trash. There should at least be evidence provided of the issue before you go live and trash a mans livelihood.

Yes, his gear is well made and good looking for the first sight but from the pure practical side he does complete nonsense applying Loctite to these screws thus preventing the owner (operator) to adjust his gear easily. I have contacted him yesterday via email, deaf and mute communication all over again, he always thinks that his opinion is the only right one, that "Loctite is needed to prevent screws from loosening because of body motion on shoulder sheath".

After that I asked him why manufacturers do not apply Loctite on factory belt sheaths like Kydex from SOG or Secure-Ex from Cold Steel that you can adjust to whatever combinations easily, and the body is moving in this part too. He could not answer my question, only said that other customers also had problems with Loctided screws, that he had to replace these screws, after that he said that I was the only one who had this problem and that he would replace me the damaged sheath if only I would not have made this thread on bladeforums "started b*tching him online" as he expressed.

Going back to point one, the practical usage of his sheaths. Is he a telepathist that can tell across the globe how his customers will wear their sheaths? In my particular case the problem was that I need one sheath position for summer light clothes (where his loctided screws fit all right), cause clothes are thin, and totally different for cold winter, when I wear thick jackets, sweaters etc. and the reach is longer just due to thicker clothes. Then you need to unscrew the sheath and change the angle of positioning of the harness (screwing into different mounting points). All right, if you apply loctite, then warn people, provide them proper information how to adjust their products, that is called an elementary customer care. You know that one might need to do this or that, than provide information about how to do this properly if you take money and do such business.

Sorry to hear you tossed it.That hardware could have been replaced with a number of things that would have worked better for you. If I trashed every saddle, car or truck that had a hardware failure,I'd be on foot till my dieing day.:)

You make some valid point BUT as sated above as soon as you binned the item and started this thread PRIOR to giving the manufacturer the opportunity to make it right, you lost the high ground and the rest now is just whining.

I can understand your displeasure with a supplier who is notoriously difficult to deal with. But we have other resources here. Had you kept the sheath a little longer, you could have asked for help here:
