Hey guys.
The wife wants to know what I want for fathers day, I have wanted a bk16 since they came out, the bk2 is currently my only Becker and this would be a compliment to that and it might see some edc use. I am having trouble justifying the 100$ price tag (canada) when I own quite a few 4" carbon steel knives already, I know none of them compare to a 16 but they are carried alongside a 2, they don't need to be wreckers. That got me looking at the 14 which is around 60 and the 24 which is around 70 but I'm afraid I will be unhappy with the little knives because they aren't a 16. Its hard to dedicate 100$ on a knife to replace my mora, know what I mean? Another 20 would put me in a 9, or do I go with a small collection of smaller pieces?

If you like your 2, you will LOVE the 16. Theres a reason Ethan swears by this knife and says its the one hes been trying to design his whole career.....

W&W is over 4000km away and there prices are about par with what I can get here. The prices I gave are what I can find in Toronto with taxes in because I have found that some people in the states can't comprehend how much tax we pay here. Thanks though.

. That's a good start. To be honest if I was going to make my own knife it would be pretty close to this.

I understand when you have to look at price then place that into consideration when purchasing blades. Something else to understand is that nine times out of ten when you compromise, you are not as happy. I can tell you the 14 is a great blade, but it does not have the handle, sheath, scales, and longer blade that the 16 has. However, in real life the blade that gets the most use is the one you can constantly have on you, or utilize more often. I do not own the 16, but I have not heard of anyone being disappointed in one. Personally I felt that the 14 filled that drop point void because it is a big blade in a little package. I went for the 15 because it better suited my needs and it is my EDC. If the 100 price tag is too steep then you might have to make a "cut" (hehehe) somewhere else, or understand that this knife could possibly be your fathers day, birthday, Christmas, anniversary, and etc etc present all rolled into one. When it comes to blades I always purchase something that fills some sort of void, upgrades my tool abilities, and above all makes me happy. So above all do what makes you and yours happy.

do it.

love mine. i have visceral love for the 2, b/c it is just such an awesome hunk of steel. but i USE my 16 a lot more. it's a great blade, functional size, and as seen above - highly modifiable to your personal style. i made a handle that extended a little forward onto the ricasso, and back all the way to the hilt. thicker micarta. made it fit my hand better, and it's my 'go to' sized knife for 90% of the cutting i do. the 2 is a lot more fun to unsheath b/c it's manly as all hell, but the 16 is just a perfect user size.

do it.
or get the 9. that one's awesome, too :)

Doc, you have much to learn my friend.

They have the best prices in southern ontario.... usually.
You guys got a point, compromises usually end up making you unhappy. My mind goes 2 ways, I picked up a Buck CSAR-T when I first got into good knives, 150 bones up here, its a cool knife but what do you do with it? I thought it was going to be my new edc but what do you cut with a thick, short tanto? That 100$ could also be a cold steel shovel, rifle mans hawk and kukri machete, not that I want to get a brand battle going here....

I'm not trying to be negative here guys, just playing the devils advocate.

Keep it up, its working.

God bless the Beckerheads, who else would be here showing me their 16s at 4am?

Have you considered buying one from a US online shop, or the bay? The big river? Even including taxes it might come out cheaper than buying it in your domestic market. That's the case for me in Europe anyway... I always buy my knives in the US. Unless they're Opinels or other european regional knives, they're cheaper here of course :)

I have occasionally in the past, sometimes you come out a little ahead, sometimes you are way behind, sometimes you get burned.

I just did yeah, with one of my own pics. You see how badly I want you to get one? :D
Seriously though, it won't disappoint you.

Owning a 16 will increase testosterone levels 23% and triple your chances of lottery winning. Women will throw panties at you and men will call you "boss".

Im with trade. In my experience a 16 will solve all your current problems in life and any in the future that you may have. All fear will leave you and the most beautiful women in the world will flock towards your blade. Not enough? Well...you will also get rich beyond your wildest dreams. Boom.

You will be drafted by the Saints in the second round just to hang around. Your truck will get 35mpg in town. The cops will wave at you when you ride your four wheeler on the sidewalk. Burger King will never f*#k up your order at the drive through.
