Help Us Name Our Boat Contest

Is that real Strawberry Diary powder?? You can't find that in the stores anymore....;)
Why, yes. Government issue. 470 calories, 56g carbs. When mixed according to the instructions you find youself holding en envelope filled with cold, pink barf. Lil' bits & chunks won't dissolve no matter how hard you shake it.

Drink it down.... mmmm. At least now I'm not hungry. Better than nothing, you're thinking.

Wrong.

When the cramps hit you 20 minutes later, you'll be wishing... nevermind.

"Funny", you'll think. "MRE's usually make me constipated and im-po-tent". Ha. With that shake, you'll never get the chance to find out if that's true.

So what's the best boat name you've seen? "Eat My Wake" from Caddyshack comes to mind...

Cat's Meow?

The Oneida was William Radolph Hearst's yacht. Also an NDN nation.

One of my faves? The Mighty P*nis. (The Adventures of Ford Fairlane)

All thoughts appreciated.

It's a brainstorming session...

the more brains, the better...

I'm stuck in a year-old writer's block... and with SWMBO having veto powers, it's hard- need everybody's input.

I still lean towards Loose Cannon, but Pollo Del Mar sounds appealing... no, it'll be veto'ed.

I hate names you have to explain to people- Privateer was my first choice. Then somebody asks "What's a Privateer?" and you have to go into a history lesson right out of Jay Leno's Jay Walking , but less funny.

Ad Astra

I should call the boat Privateer. The he__ with, uhhh, the historically challenged.

just readin' a novel about the confederate navy, in it was a gunboat called 'cape fear' - thought that was a kinda neat name

I disagree. Obscure references make excellent names. If someone doesn't know what it means, politely remind them that you're the captain, not the search engine, and give them their homework assignment.

Privateer is a keeper, and was actually the name I was thinking of when I started reading this thread.

Head over to the balisong forum here on BF and take a gander at the names of the moderators. One of them in particular has a name that I think would be perfect.

Call it Privateer, Mike:) That way when people ask you can say "You knoooow" with a wink and nudge to the ribs. Then they'll look at you blankly for a split second, then pretend to know what you're talking about and say with a chuckle "Ohhhh! You dirty dog. Your wife let you name it that!?" Then you can smile and chuckle as you walk away and mutter "dumb@$$" to yourself. ;)

I would call it "Kicking the Habit" in honor of your change in lifestyle.

edit: me spellt bad

I've never cared for the joke and pun names. I've always thought my boat would need a poetic name that had some history or an appropriate connection with nature.

Oneida is on my list (mentioned above)
Zephyr
or, bringing bittersweet memeories of home Susquehanna

I don't think that's the way you're leaning Ad, but SWMBO might like something along those lines.

Vascello Di`

Means the boat/vessel in italy ;) and looks awesome in some good old type fancy font.. I built a small old timey wooden ship out of scrap wood and named it Vascello Di` Daniella after my wife.. and she was estatic that I used her name on it..

"Drug Runner"

Well, maybe not. Some folks have no sense of dry humor.

Seriously, how about a number or something that signifies something else?

Example: If you watch SNL, you've noticed the door at the back of the set on Studio 8H through which the guest host enters is numbered "30." That is a longstanding "slam" to the NBC execs of the mid-70s, who did not allow the SNL cast to enter 30 Rockefeller Plaza through the front door; they had to use the service entrance out back, or enter from the Concourse level beneath "30 Rock." Loren Michaels, the producer of SNL decided to paint "30" on the door at the rear of the set as a slam to the Powers That Were.

Nice job Jefff!!!! :D  :D

I've had a long love affair with the old sailing ships and carved a few when I was younger. I gave them all away but I finally got one back after 30 years. The bowsprit had been broken but I was able to glue it back.
I cut one of the hooks off of a treble fishing hook and then used a Ball Pein Hammer to flatten the double hook that was left, makes a helluva anchor.;) :D
I used varnish to "set" the sails, didn't know any better.
I carved the figurehead right into the prow of the carved redwood 4" X 4" hull. Never did name the ship.
I used to do a lot of wood carving way back when, enjoyable.:D  :D

fising

when some one asks you say its what you do off the back of the boat..rod in one hand....

ok never mind :(

Thanks, Dave & Jake...

Occams Razor: your first guess is usually right...

Privateer reminds of us of war & dark days, when the British navy was strangling the colonies and merchants & whalers armed themselves to bring the war to the enemy... they actually took more prizes and sank more British ships than the colonial navy...

Hmm. May have to send Satori that MRE... :D :( :p

How about Keel haul? :D

Don't forget to buy some of those cannon that Bill Marsh posted the link for. You could do some pressganging at the next Khonvention.
