So I sold my Entrek Bison on the forums earlier this week, and I'm looking for another large blade knife. Something in the 7-9 in. range. I know this is where a lot of people will scream Becker, and I guess I can't blame them... everything I have heard is good. Well except for the handle and possibly the sheaths. I am wondering what else is out there that can hold up to the Beckers. I am eying the junglas but I think the blade is over 10 in. This knife would be used as a chopper and heavy duty camp chores. My price max is around 100 +/- 20. Something with a 3/16 blade would be nice... I don't think that I would need the 1/4. I saw a busse kurki that looked pretty sweet ... I don't have the funds for that . Boris be interested in something similar

The Buck Hoodlum can be found online for around $120. I have read great reviews on it but haven't used one myself.

I recomment a Cold Steel Trail Master. Fits in your budget and from my experience it outperforms the BK 9 by far. Also the USRSOG cadre recommends this knife and these guys are my reference.

You can buy the Junglas without a sheath for about that price. You can pick up a cheaper sheath or later on get the nice Kydex one they sell it with. I think it's worth the extra cash myself.

It's hard to beat the Junglas for the money. The heat treat, grind, quality control, ergonomics, performance and warranty - well, it's just really hard to find a home run like that these days.

My Junglas is the one knife I won't get rid of. I've had several and regretted ever getting rid of any of them. I won't let the one I have now go. I can't say that about any other knife.

How about the Ka-Bar Potbelly ( Review by Larry the cable guy !)~

I have always liked the look of the cs trailmaster.... but how does the kraton hold up after a long time of heavy use. That and I have never owned one and haven't read any reviews on them....has anyone here done one?

After looking at this video the Ka-Bar War sword is worth a look if you like the Hoodlum !

Dead horse, pitdog. Don't bring that ancient and solved issue up again.

Besides, it's a good knife. I haven't used a becker ever so I don't know how it performs in comparison but the trailmaster is a good knife. The handle has a comfortable texture, though it may be a bit slim for some people.

Sorry buds is that an old vid ? I don't have any experience with Cold Steel and so when the OP asked about them I did a quick search and found that !

My CS Trailmaster from the 90's is a great blade but the kraton handle has became loose overtime.

Thank you everyone for your input .... its a tough decision between the buck and esee. They both look like quality knives. Guess I'm going to make the trip to smoky Mtn knife works tomorrow

If you can find a used- but cared for- scrap yard Dog Father on the exchange, it could be worth the money. They are a bit spendy, but within range of your limits (if I remember correctly, they were ~$150 new).

Does anyone know if the black kabars are USA made? I was looking at the cutlass machete. Looks decent ...1085 carbon steel, 11 in. blade... are these full tang

Boker vox rold!!! it works for me for from chopping to fine work, D2 steel and the sharpening isnt bad at all like some people make it sound. it is just a great knife no doubt. look into it, if you need pics just ask me

Scrapyard 711 is still avail at the shop at factory prices, and is a nice carry knife.

The esee junglas is an awesome knife and comes with a top notch sheath. I would go with it over the hoodlum, and I'm a long time fan of the man, Ron hood. But I like the junglas more.

Let us know what you get

You can try Condor Hudson Bay, good price, great sheath, simple effective. Carbon blade,3/16th width,8 1/2" blade. I like mine.

Looks like a decent knife 2 things kill it though ... it's atleast 2 in. short of what I'm looking for and it's made in China

I like the looks of the scrapyard ...what does the resoprene handle feel like it? Is it like a hard plastic or rubbery? Also I just got into making my own kydex sheaths... with the junglas is the one that comes with it on worth it, should I just make my own?
