Help with broken blade

The cracks on his blades are occurring where they hit it with a torch and we know what that does to a stainless blade.

If you have one that is cracked heat treated by Jeff, you can be assured it is not due to him taking a torch to it.

Granted buddy, I think I screwed up the grinding on that one. My bad, still happens once in a while. Also I should mention there is one A2 blade on that table that was heat treated by Jeff, realized when I was drilling holes in its bolsters. Anyhoo, what I was trying to get across is, I understand the concern regarding the torching. However, day in, day out, knife after knife, same steel and supplier as OP and same ht as OP and I've never seen that happen. Not once. Not when I'm working on em and not after they've been bought and used hard. Not once. So why are his cracking and not mine? Lots of mine have been torched too. Still perplexed, quien sabe?

BTW buddy that was a simply OUTSTANDING folder you posted on IG this morning. Wow!

nevermind, I was trying to use one of the other hosting sites, didn't work. This picture shows the torch marks
If you tried the site I linked to, https://imgbb.com/ look for a tab/icon that says "embedded codes", then in the dialog box that pops up the top will say something like "Viewer Links", click on that and choose "BBCode full" and a link will appear in the bottom section. Copy that link and just simply paste into your post.

The link will look like above without the extra spaces around the "img", I put those there so the photo wouldn't post.

I found the best free hosting place is drop box. It’s free and you can hot link and thy have an app that you can upload right from your phone.
I've been using dropbox for well over 15 yrs and never thought about using it as the hosting site. I'll have to check that!

Nope, didn't work for me - that link will link to the photo, but it doesn't appear in the thread. How do you make it appear live in thread?

Thanks!

It seems this is occurring on longer blades and they probably had a large warp in them. On your blades the warp was probably not as significant on a shorter blade or non existent.

Not all warpage is going to be very large, but on a large warp it would take more heat and more bending .

We know there is going to be stress in that stainless blade and a blade with hard and soft spots which is bent straight there is going to be a war in that metal and sometimes something gives.

I know from observation that AEB-L can actually still move for days after heat treatment and that would play hell on a blade already under stress.

You have to change the link address slightly.

You have to remove the “dl=0” and replace it with “raw=1” so it looks like this

OK, let's try this:

OK, that does work. My pasted in now is the following and it seems to work (I put spaces on each side of "img" so you can see the actual pasted in link.

Of course that requires me to keep the photo in the same spot and same name in Dropbox. Best way to do that would be to create a seperate directory just for hosted photos.

Thanks JT - I've learned something today.

This place man. I completely hand sanded this one, both sides, take it off the jig I have to hand sand on and it's in 2 pieces.

So a question is what is the target HRC your knives are supposed to be and what is the target HRC for OPs? I don't know if Peter's only does AEB-L in a certain target range or allows the requester to specify/request a range but it would from my understanding be a very different process to hit 60-62 vs 59-61 which could explain the differences in results.
