I just bought a female black lab that I will be using for Upland hunting and could use some help choosing a name. My wife and I have been calling her "Dog" for two days and it's getting kind of old :)

Any ideas would be aprreciated

Thanks

Flesh Rocket.

Thats what we named our platoon dog in Iraq. It was almost a tie between that and Meat Missile.

"Dog" was good enough for John Wayne. I can't remember which movie that was from.

Big Jake.
Great movie. Bad guy: "I thought you was dead?"
John Wayne: "Not hardly."

Back on topic, here's a short list:
Jesse
Maggie
Mandy
Onyx
Pippa
Lucy
Shadow

There are a ton of names out there. If you are looking for one specific to upland game hunting, think of specific items or terms related to it and see if any click with you.

Good luck.

For bird dogs I like short names with two syllables or less. The harsher the syllables the better. The name when yelled won't be discernable, but the pattern or tempo/tone of the name will be. My current dog is named Radar, he's not a bird dog, but it is the concept. Names like River or Lucy are less effective.

Of couse there is always the comedy of naming a dog B!tch. Imagine running down the street yelling that to get her back into the yard!

Or nme her after your favorite musician/group.

A family friend had a female black lab that was one of the best dogs I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He named her Dixie Bob but everyone called her Dixie, sounds like a good choice to me. If not I would name her Girl, most the time you will call her that anyway, "Come here Girl!" "That's a good Girl" " so on and so forth.

I had my 15 year old black Lab put down 2 years ago. We named her Holly... One reason was, she was my Christmas present, and I have used Holley Carburetors for years.

I really want to get another one. I'll never replace her, she was very special, but most of them are great dogs

I also have a black female Lab, she has been one of the best dogs I've ever had. She is really really smart and a very loving dog. She isn't mean or territorial in any way toward other animals, as long as they leave her alone she leaves them alone. She loves the water, we used to take her swimming more than we do now. She is getting up there in age though, she'll be 10 this coming Aug. She's starting to get white hair all over the place, especially her chin and paws. She is still very much an active dog, though you can't tell it by looking at her, she just can't go as long as she used to. My mother has become very attached to her, they are really a lot of company to each other. My mother was also who named her, she named her Jackie. I didn't get her as any kind of hunting dog or anything just a pet, and she's been a great one. Hope you have as great of an experience with yours as I have with mine! Good luck naming her as well.

My friends dog is called Benson but the only way he can get him to come back when he runs off is to shout " BACON !". Bacon is his dogs favourite food ( Isn't it everyones !) so he has now more or less changed his dogs name to Bacon !

if it were a yellow lab i would name her Miller. after the beer. always liked that name. not so much the beer though

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. we ended up naming her Olive last night. It was the one name that the kids and my wife and I could all agree on.
