Help with Micarta: How to bond knife to something else safely?

Blue tape it and put glue on the tape. It will hold and then peel off not effecting the scale.
This was a method also suggested by the knifemaker. I have spent the last 35 hours with food poisoning, giving me ample time to let my printer run on these soft jaws. Half of me wants to just try the superglue with blue painter's tape method and get going, half of me wants to see if the jaws work.

Extended research on Micarta suggests that acetone does nothing to it. Superglue has been suggested by the knifemaker. I'm going to give superglue a go.

I would definitely not use superglue directly on the handle material.
Tape on the handle and then the hot glue. Tape residue will clean up easily.
My opinion only.

A lot of good suggestions in this thread. Good luck with the soft jaws. :)

Thanks for the vote of confidence :) I have a lot of people that believe in me. I am going to do my very, very best.

I'm reverse engineering the profile of this knife and making 3d printed PLA jaws for my vise to hold it. A little bit of trial and error will get me there. The printing is going to take some time, a day at least.
Good idea and I hope they work.

Another thought if they don’t…
You only work one bolster at a time right? Couldn’t you use hot glue like normal but JUST on the opposite bolster? I’m sure the glue won’t affect tge bare steel, and while it’ll get stuck in the engraved side you should have the tools/skills to clean it out…

Good luck and keep us posted.

Well, the soft jaws were a good thought. My first set holds the knife great but I can't reach where I need to to get all the way around it with my cutting tool. We're going with the superglue blue painter's tape method. I tested it on a few other objects, and it works, so what the hey.

I'll report back with some pretty engraving.

have you gone to the harware store and vice gripped it in place and done some kind of impact test? may just be a good eye balling test to see for this project as well as future ones...

Just a suggestion.
