Hennessy Hammock Expedition A-Sym Zip Hammock

Those links are great! I had thought of the eye splice, but haven't ever seen a constrictor "whoopie" sling... that's a great idea!

I have a HH with the bottom entry, and I really like it, but that zipper fly seems like such a no-brainer, I don't know why they didn't do it before. Anyway, best of luck with the toy!

Tarp already ordered. Hammocks are looking really cool. I may have to give this a try some day.

I'd need a "super size" setup though with my big butt, hehe. :(

I know guys well over 300 pounds who hammock. You just have to choose the RIGHT hammock for such a situation.

thanks for posting, I had narrowed my search to either a Clark or Blackbird- didn't realize Hennessy offered a side zip- now my list is less narrow :D

Thanks to your links, I just got myself some 7/64" amsteel blue, and I'm gonna see how this whoopie sling thing works out.

I'm a little hesitant to take apart my HH suspension (I'm of the if it ain't broke don't fix it mindset), so I think I'll try it with an eyesplice and some knotwork to begin with.

Hey chop,

Tying knots in Amsteel blue is not easy; only certain knot holds securely. Actually, once you built your sling, the HH attachement is a breeze (see the HH attachment link I posted above).

Essentially, you have two holes, and the ridgeline loop. Pass your fixed loop through one hole, wrap around the end two times, pass through the second hole, through the ridgeline loop, through the first hole again, and finally, slip your whoopie through your loop.

Here's what the original attachment looks like (just a simple bowline knot and the same procedure detailed above):

PS. I'm completely the opposite; I always find a way to break things in the hope of "making them better" :D

I've heard that. I just got the email tonight that my amsteel has shipped, so I'll start playing with it in a few days. I'm thinking I might tie a marlin spike in the HH stock line and loop the eyesplice of the whoopie over that. I got some extra amsteel so I'll probably try out some of the knots I can find that do work. Sounds like splices are a better way to go, though.

Thanks for the pic's and the info! The loop attachment to the HH looks easy enough that I might even get it right the first time! lol

Oh I wasn't always this way. It's been a somewhat painful lesson... mostly involving computers, deadlines, and too much $$.

I reviewed 3 different quilts like the Jacks R better quilt, and have found that they are one of the best ways to go in cooler weather with the hammock. Much less annyoing to get into than a sleeping bag. If you use an emergency blanket or even get a bit more technical attaching it to a closed cell foam pad, it keeps in heat well.

I use a prussik knot on my tarp attached to the main line. I refuse to go to that hammock forum, I know exactly what will happen and lose 10 hrs of my life.
