Henry Beige (#37) wins Old Big-mouth's multiple landmark GAW

I'm in, thanks!

"If you can dream and not make dreams your master,
If you can think and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with triumph and disaster, and treat those two impostors just the same. "

-Rudyard Kipling

I'm in on that beautiful knife.

Not very highbrow, but a favorite line from Grand Torino.. "Did ya ever notice that once in a while, you run into somebody you shouldn't f*** with? That's me."

Great GAW thank you for the chance to win a very cool knife.

SITTING HERE THINKING OF THINGS IN THE PAST
HAS JUST RIPPED ME OUT OF THIS GOOD DAY SO
FAST. HOPPING AND WISHING WONT TAKE IT AWAY
IV'E GOT TO START LIVING JUST FOR TODAY. IV'E
DONE SO MUCH AND COME SO FAR WHY DO THESE
OLD GOST STILL TARE & SCAR? I KEEP LOOKING TO
THE SUNLIGHT BUT GET CAUGHT IN THE RAIN JUST
STANDING THERE FREEZING DRIPPING IN PAIN.
Crazy poem I wrote when I was only a few months sober.
Whenever I feel like a drink might be a good idea I read
this little ray of sunshine that came strate from the depths
Of hell witch I know is were just one drink will take me.
EVERYTIME!!

I'm in. I have never had this pattern and would love to check it out. If it's not for me I know my brother in law would enjoy it.

My neuro-net fired produced these random three came quickly.

“All truth is relative; it just depends on what you believe."
You know, "hey man, ain't no way to know for sure ... what's really true."…
But that means you believe your own statement,
That there's no way to know what's really true.
You're saying that that statement is true.
You're killing yourself. If what's true for you is true for you
And what's true for me is true for me,
What if my truth says yours is a lie' Is it still true' Come on man!”

Thank you for the chance. :thumbsup:

Congratulations on reaching a great milestone of life!

I'm In. Thanks for the chance and congrats on reaching 60.

I'll admit it, I had to google the French.

Klink: You don't have to translate for me; I understand French.
Hogan: It was Latin.
Klink: Your pronunciation is terrible!

Include a line of poetry or dialogue that you like for whatever reason.

Not an entry.

In 2013, Meako had a giveaway in which he asked for limerick. Some of the entries went a bit awry, as limericks are wont to do. This was my non-entry in that thread. It's about as much poetry as one is likely to get from me on a Saturday morning:
Some limericks are known to be crass
They have words we don't mention, like "ass".
Lets keep the words clean
Then the limericks will remain
Otherwise, this thread will not pass

And I find that the new search engine seems to be up to snuff.

I'm in, please; I can not pass up a chance at a knife with a blade I don't even recognize!! :eek: (After more than 3 years of semi-immersing myself in the world of traditional folders, almost every week (day?) I'm surprised by yet another totally new "thing" of some kind.)

Congrats on the 60 years of life, the 4K posts, and the 5+ years at BF, Jer! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: And thanks for the generous and interesting GAW! :cool:

Quotes or poetry, eh? Well, I enjoy thinking about simple little paradoxical statements such as the classic "This sentence is false." Related to it is something I've seen occasionally on my bank statements: "This page intentionally left blank." :D Or even one of my favorite alleged quotes from Yogi Berra: "If the people don't want to come out the the ball park, how you going to stop them?" And although I don't listen to nearly as much music as I once did, there are plenty of song lyrics that express viewpoints that resonate with me.
" You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find you'll get what you need." Richards/Jagger

"When I was just a baby, my Mama told me, 'Son,
always be a good boy. Don't ever play with guns.'" Cash

"I ain't saying you treated me unkind,
You coulda done better, but I don't mind.
You just kinda wasted my precious time.
Don't think twice, it's alright." Dylan

Lots of meaningful Biblical quotes, too, but some folks get upset by those. :confused:

Best wishes to all the entrants! :D

I'm in. Monologue, not dialogue. I don't usually post it until October 25. I would like to say I can recite it from memory, but I can't.

WESTMORLAND. O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!

KING. What's he that wishes so?
My cousin, Westmorland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmorland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall see this day, and live old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say "To-morrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words—
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

I'm in , thanks for the generous giveaway and awesome knife.

" the moral of this story is, don't never try to take no 18 carrots from no rabbit "
Bugs Bunny

Another quote I love is from a song.
" some days you kill it, and some days you just choke " " some days you blast off, and some days you just smoke "
Sturgill simpson.

The first may be from a cartoon, but is a pretty good lesson that can be interpreted many different ways.
The second I love because it's a reminder that life happens, and some time you may bring your A game and other times not so much, but that's just how it goes.
