Here’s a Weird One...

The crack is a constant distance from the apex. This tells me the stress that caused it to crack is most likely a function of the steel thickness at that location. This in turn suggests a problem with the heat treatment. I agree with others who say it isn’t the alloy purity; lots of decent 8CR blades out there.

I suspect laborers throwing their sabots into the works.

LOL! Dang Neo-Luddites at it again.

Either that, or that chicken just drank a shot of super sauce from a martini glass. Didn't happen to have a lion with him wearing an inside out sweater with an "F" on the front did he?

Definitely a weird failure, but your warranty service will have you fixed up in a jiffy with zero issues.

I would guess that's a stress fracture from a poor heat treat. I really doubt it would be a thermal fracture.

Now I'm tempted to take my CQC-4KXL and freeze / heat , just to see ? Naw ... it works too perfect and is probably fine .

But surely someone else will do this and post pics .

I have a Kershaw CQC 4KXL and I frequently bring it from being in well below freezing outdoor temps into a heated room, I have cleaned it off with hot water while the blade was still cold and I have had no issues.

The sadist in me wants to try to replicate what was shown in the OP...

For science.
