Its funny that you mention this, Derek. I have had my suspicions about Guyot for some time now---I posted this on another forum back in July 2012:
Had an interesting chat with Nalgene and Guyot today--
· Thu Jul 12, 2012 07:32 AM
So I finally got sick of wondering about the mysterious disappearance and unavailability of the Nalgene/Guyot bottle. I spoke with a Nalgene representative today and she basically told me that they are currently on an indefinite backorder. She stated they get them from Guyot Designs and Guyot gets them from China. I mentioned the mysteriousness of the situation, that these bottles have become very popular and are in quite a high demand. She advised me that Guyot has been acting the same way to them. Apparently Guyot is dragging their feet, giving them the run-around and sometimes even hanging up on Nalgene reps. I inquired as to why Nalgene just doesnt do something on their own and get these bottles (or something very similar) back on the market before another company (ie Klean Kanteen) corners the market and creates a loss of potential profit from Nalgene. She informed me she was not aware of the popularity of these bottles and said she would pass this info on to the product development people so that they may do something. I then called Guyot myself. The customer service rep was very friendly. I asked, "What happened to the Stainless Steel bottles?" She immediately got very curt. "You need to speak with product services, please hold." I was placed on hold for several minutes. The same woman returned to the line, said they were currently unavailable and asked if I would like a call back. I left my name and number. I doubt I will be receiving that return call. It was quite odd the way the tone of the call changed as soon as I mentioned the bottle. I think maybe if everyone starts contacting Nalgene and making them aware of the demand of these bottles, they might do something.---also I just learned the proper way to pronounce Guyot. I always thought it was GUY-IT or GUY-OT but when they answer the phones they say GEE-OH Designs (G sound, not a J sound).

Now that is interesting, I read that a few days ago, had no idea that was you.

Over the course of the last five and a half years, I am sure my name was not one they were fond of hearing around their office. I have been hassling them monthly (sometimes more) over their inability to produce any of the unique products that really make them stand out. Like I told Murph, they were ahead of their time, and now that everyone else has caught up they seem to be going out of their way to not produce the stuff that everyone wants. Strange way to run a business, but there is no accounting for sense it seems. Last year in August they sent a few of us on their Facebook page preorder forms for the Griptions that they were supposedly going to be doing a short run of. Haven't heard a thing about it since then, and it was only dumb luck that lead to me being able to finally pick up a few. If Nalgene would buy them out then the world would be a much happier place. Here's hoping that is what is happening.

Backpacking tent I got in the mail a few days ago. Not my review. Got a $300 tent for $172 shipped:

Good looking sturdy tent.

Looking forward to getting it out and set up. It's a little on the heavy side at 6lbs, 11 ounces, but, the cool thing is, you can set the poles up on just the footprint, then put the rainfly on. That would reduce the hell out of the weight. It came with a footprint, gear loft, and is already seam taped/waterproofed. Love the color too. I hate the bright colored tents.

That's a nice tent.

A friend of mine has the same one (in the bright orange color though) and we used it on a 4 night trip and it worked just fine. Very easy to set up too.

A little on the heavy side, but not bad when split between two people.

Sorry my tent killed the fun, haha. Damn, and it's even green. ;) :D

That's what I was thinking, that the wife could carry part of it, and I'll carry the stakes. :D

Went and had shepard's pie for lunch. Seemed rather fitting and since there is an Irish pub right across the street, it was easy too. I walked in behind this group of 5 older guys (lower 50s-upper 60s) the hostess walked up and said "6?" the guys turned looked at me, and said "Yeah, sure, why not! The place is pretty packed anyway" so I joined them for lunch. They were the good ole boy types but had THICK brogues. It was a pretty bad ass lunch for real. I enjoyed the hell out of it as they were talking about "home".

I'm in the market for a good tent, the question is weather I want to spend the bucks on a single person for when I go solo or a larger family tent... Think ill go family, we are gunna get out under the stars a lot more this year! Any suggestions for a 4-6 person?

We've got a Kelty trail dome 6 that has been a great tent. They are 149 on the river store.

REI also makes some decent family size tents (I borrowed a 6 person a few months back but forget the model name) that aren't too heavy and expensive. Good return policy as well if it turns out you don't like it.

Hey HS.

Are you car camping or backpacking? There are very few (if any) lightweight backpackable tents in that size. There are plenty of car camping and basecamp options, but they tend to be on the heavier side.

Hey Gus, you have any idea why Guyot Designs closed down their Facebook page? Any whispers in the wind of them being shut down or bought out? Inquiring minds want to know.

With the family? Car camping for sure! I have had a few large tents over the years but nothing I was really happy with. When I'm solo I use either my Grand Trunk hammock system or my HI-tech single backpacker.

Not sure about that, but the blog on their homepage is in latin. Here's a translation of part of it. Seems they've gone completely insane.

"This page is available, however, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it. Or desires to obtain pain in the bullet train to find fault with in the pleasure of pain that produces no resultant good to flee. These cases are perfectly account of the system, the fault of those who are in the original text: this is to sink.

But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and a complete account of the system, and the very fact which is the truth, the master builder of a happy life by him who discovered it were said to you here. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because of the great sorrows of those who pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that they do not know. Nor again is there anyone who loves pain itself, because it is pain, pursue, so blinded by desire, but because occasionally occur at times of such a nature in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. For, as the to the smallest things I will come, which of us of exercise for any reconciliation with of the body of it undertakes a laborious toilsome, unless it is order to give some out of her the make fit consequatur? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?

User editable look and dislike men who are most worthy of hatred just to accuse and to appease with a ready pleasant flattery of her or else he can not foresee the pain and trouble that sint occaecati ambition, and equal blame belongs to those who forsake the duties of weakness of will, that is to be welcomed and every pain avoided. These cases are perfectly simple and easy to distinguish. For your own responsibility to adhere to these terms is the option of choosing a less and when nothing prevents we may be able to do that which is well pleasing in the highest degree, every pleasure is to be welcomed and every pain avoided. But in certain circumstances and debts or obligations, or of things it will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiated and annoyances accepted. Accordingly, these matters to this a free hour, so that either rejecting some other greater pleasures, or else he endures pains to avoid worse consequences pains."
