half my life I've walked around misunderstood, then I get on the interlube and no one understands me... my verbiage in text format sucks to say the least, most the time people think I'm coming off harsh but in reality its just the opposite, I have a major problem apparently communicating myself "Most" the time I'm in a forum...

after all is said and done though, I still like things sharp :)

is that wrong??

did you say something???/

I can't understand the words that are coming off your fingertips....

Well no! I'm gonna be in the shop all weekend. But that's the best time to call me HS. Usually lookin for a excuse to take a break, either day will be fine.

So, we're having our semi annual adult leaders campout in about 4 weeks.... traditionally we go out friday afternoon, set up camp, and begin imbibing our favorite adult beverages. when everyone else arrives around 5 or 6, we get the sober ones (there's always a few) to drive us into town to a nice little ma and pa restaurant and eat dinner. We return to camp and bullshit, play some matchstick poker, drink, and compare knives, guns and whatever... of course there is a no gun handling while drinking rule, so its always just talk. Knives, axes, hawks, etc are on display ...handle at your own risk. then on saturday we jump up and head to the gun range. we shoot until we are tired or out of ammo. we then go to a nice seafood restaurant and eat lunch...then its back to camp for more drinking, bullshitting, poker and blades, etc. then we prepare a camp feast that would knock your socks off... sunday morning, its breakfast, break camp, go home around noonish.

this next one, we have to break tradition. none of us wants to blow what ammo we have (since we can't find any around here..thanks to mr special), so we are not going to the range. instead, we are going to do air rifle (pellet and/or bb), hawk and knife throwing, and bow / crossbow, slingshot ..etc., in camp... it will be fun..

my question for you beckerheads is..

I need an air rifle... i used to have an old crossman 760 years ago.. they still make them... but i just wanted to canvass you fine folks and see what you are using, or recommend, in this area, if anything... Also looking for slingshot opinions as well..

thanks in advance for any input

what's your price range?
Gamo makes some good ones under $150.
the higher $$ ammo adds a few FPS to the velocity which equals flatter trajectory or longer range, but it's a tradeoff for succeptibility to wind deflection.

Got a few knife designs I want made but I was thinking what tools would I need to make them myself. Would cost be better if I just had them made?

I don't want to discourage anyone from the wonders of knifemaking but you need to be prepared for lots of frustration if you've never made a knife before. Having the tools and there cost is only one thing. If you just want to make a few knives it would probably be better to have them made. A few knives wouldn't justify buying decent tools to do it yourself. If you plan on getting into knifemaking, then start buying and collecting tools now.

i should have mentioned that... I don't want to spend as much as for a real rifle... less than 150 ... closer to 100... i havev seen some of the high end ones that are more than a quality centerfire... i am not going down that route.. looking for a quality but reasonable user

Anything German-made. Beeman/Weirauch/Feinwerkbau. Note that not all Beeman's are German-made. They used to be before they decided to compete in the low-cost market.
Spend some money.
The Spanish, Chinese, and American brands all pretty much suck.

Velocity: stay out of the transonic region. .177 pellets are too light to deal with that turbulence. Stick with 700-900fps in .177.
Besides, all of the 1000-1200fps advertising is only true with stupid-light pellets that really aren't very good anyway.

Buy quality ammo - it's makes a difference. The Gamo stuff is OK here, and so are Crosman Premiers (but not other Crosman). VERY good are Beeman, RWS, H&N. I like RWS Hobby pellets A LOT for paper-punching.

If you spend the money on a good air rifle ($300+) you will LOVE IT FOREVER. If you buy a piece of crap you will consider it a toy. But once you've handled a real proper air rifle you will respect it for the fine machine that it is (and it will have a decent trigger, which none of the cheapos do).

Before you choke on the idea of dropping $300+ on an air rifle, remind yourself that you will save enough in ammo to pay for it with the first couple tins of pellets.

Does not exist. A quality machine cannot be manufactured for $125.

ETA: The IZH-61 is about as much fun as there is to be had in an air rifle in your price range. It's silly-accurate, but relatively low-power. And a repeater! "Quality"? well, corners have to be cut somewhere, but it's a plinker's delight.

Any web developers in our neck of the woods?

Since nobody has jumped in here, I'll try to help you out RB. I think the most common in your neck of the woods would be Argiope trifasciata or yellow garden spider.

It's dumping snow here too. Which would be fine, except I drove out to the gun store to pick up my PPQ, and nobody was there. They even told me they'd be open today when I was there yesterday afternoon. Sheesh. Now I gotta wait til Monday.
