Here come the chinese!!!

Did anybody notice that in the description the rivits were made of copper? not brass and if this was a 2009 production wouldn't the rivits be made of stainless steal or if older brass but copper never was an option. Mistake or not. And whats with the green guy? Who is the poster, haven't heard of him. WE DON"T USE THE GREEN GUY HERE, TOUCAN OASIS:grumpy:

Quote is from CJ Buck
“Part of our marketplace is in
offering price point products that are
priced too low for us to manufacture
in the US. We import about 20 percent
of our products, those opening price
points,
and have focused our new
product development for the last two
years to bringing some products back
from China, while creating other US
new products that will fill the gaps created
as imports run their lifecycles"

20% majority? Good info toucan-You and the green guy may want to head over to the Kamp King Forum

sometimes in origin, redundant products inside the legal order will be sell privately, those are qualified products , or maybe with factory blemish, but not a fake. this is very confusing, due to the authorized factory manage imprecisely.
even so. i think the uthorized factory was authorized pass the strict censorship. i believe they will keep credit for authorizer. absolutely not illegal production or fake.

so, all of fake, are made by underground maker.

as a buyer, to refuse the fake , i can only purchase from legal agent through legal channels. for secondhand, i have to rely on own ability to discern.

Well, that in itself is information and a point of view that we haven't had here before, so I thank you.

In other words, Chinese companies make at least three categories of knife.....
1. Fakes for export
2. Good knives to market within China through reputable dealers.
3. Knives made to standards set for a foreign company like Buck.

So.....if it's on e-Bay one must skillfully discern which category it might be.

Am I understanding you correctly?

Feel free to add more, your perspective is valuable.

7Cr17MoV is pretty much Chinese 440A. Gerber and CRKT use it in the Chinese produced knives they have, maybe the same manufacturer makes this knife?

Thanks.

Wonder if we'll soon get to the point where these Chinese manufacturers start putting their own brand name on their own knives and building brand reputation for specific levels of quality.

This would make things a lot less confusing.

I'm guessing the word "copper" was used by mistake and the intent was to use the word brass.

That kind of threw me, too.......because the knife LOOKS like the hardware is all nickel.

Hard to tell from photos, though. One can never be sure of the lighting used.

Bidding has ended on this item...0 bids

He put it right back up though.

He continues to have ten auctions.

This seller has sold one knife (a Cold Steel Rescue).

He is using ONLY Three-day auctions, probably in anticipation of being shut down.

Very interesting.

GFL......I think you're talking about the ricasso and the kick angles--and the really interesting thing is that these resemble the kick configuration of the Pre-81 440C blades.
Exactly.

As far as the stamp goes.....slight differences in size, but very slight.
Here's a genuine 2009 stamp:

The USA lettering is much smaller.

I can't see any difference in the distances between rivets, that may just be my old eyes. Can you be specific?
Sure.

The ratio of the red line to the green one is different on the copy.

Just to share this from Joe.

Dave,
I am guessing that those knives were not made by Buck. I sent the auction to our legal guys to hopefully put an end to it.

Thanks as always for the help!

I see it now, GFL.......the rocker pivot is farther forward on the real 110.

You laid that out real nice with those colored lines, thanks.

:)

As of now, this guy is still selling......he just got a bid of $40 on one of his "Cold Steel" knives.......still no bids on the Bucks.

Doesn't look like Buck's "legal guys" could put a stop to it.

Unfortunately, these auctions keep popping up. Our "legal guy" who has been hear at Buck for over 30 years, gets just a tad hot under the collar when talking about these counterfiet knives! He is doing what he can through the online auction site where they are appearing but it is kind of like that game whack-a-mole. You stop one seller but another one pops right up to take his/her place. Frustrating! :grumpy:

Well, at least no one seems to have taken the "bait" so far Joe. I doesn't look like anyone has even bid on one of the "110's" that he has listed now or any that were listed before.

I just came across a copy of a Buck 112 but his list says its a fake. It also said that the company is no longer in buisness so hopefully there won't be alot of them coming up. I was surprised to see a Buck 112 for 20 bucks until I found out it was a cheap copy.
