Ordinarilly you gotta love it when kids mix it up with wildlife but....

So there I was . . . just relaxing in front of the T.V. when the grandkids yelled, "Hey Poppy, come see the kittens!!"

Look Im likely to be putting my foot in my mouth here, but I wouldnt feel right if I didnt mention it, are we ok about rabies on this? Skunks are notorious carriers.

We used to have lots of skunks here in the Florida Panhandle and South Georgia, but now they seem to be gone. What has happened to them? Did rabies or some other disease wipe them out? I haven't seen or smelled one in years!

No, they weren't allowed to keep them and play with them. I am sending a six-pack of them to a forum member who misses them and wants them around!

And yes, now that they know what they are, they won't be so likely to pet the Mommy kitty!

Don't be a meanie, let them them keep them...it'll give you something other than the dog to blame when you drop one out !!!:D:thumbup:

You get tired of blaming the dog? Oh, they got wise to you when the dog wasn't even around! :D

its my understanding if you get their scent glands removed, they can actually make ok pets. Plus, If you can't have a guard dog in your house, just let a couple of those unscented buggers run around, someone might think twice before kicking in your door.

Before 1940 Daddy went to school in a little town between Chattanooga and Nashville. My grandfather owned a store, so Daddy wasn't quite the rough, tough, woodsman hillbilly that many of his classmates were. He used to tell me that some of those who trapped critters for their hides would come to school just reeeeeking of skunk scent on Monday mornings after they had caught one over the weekend. He said those stinking boys would almost run everybody out of the school, including the poor teacher! :D

Yeah they make great pets when the scent glands are removed. Very intelligent and social. Unlike cats :(

About once a year a couple of pet stores around here get a batch of baby skunks in to sell as pets. They're pretty cute and fun to play with. I understand that they like to burrow though, so watch out for your carpet and furniture 'cause they'll try to dig right through it!

Stinkers might be ok, always thought they would make a pet with a lot of cool factor but when you really think about it, most wild animals that I have ever know of never really made good pets. Might be best to get a dog. Cats are ok but are stringy.

My father shot and skinned one before school one morning. The teacher took one whiff and sent him right back home! "Don't you come back here until you don't stink anymore!"
