Here's Close Up Pics of Daryl's Team Gemini.... does Tan & Back G10 darken?

I've got a bunch of micarta... and patiently waiting on G10 from the swamp. Non of my micarta have the multiple colors like Daryl's. Must be the Gemini cut. Plus my micarta is sooo much darker.

.... is that canvas micarta or paper micarta ..?? I have a TGLB with black paper at home and it looks just like that. All my black canvas has a more green/grey appearance.

Andy, I ordered a canvas micarta w/ the RMD. I wanted the rough grip. You can see the fabric / cross stitching so i'm pretty sure it's canvas but I've never held paper so I don't know.

Current polling below. I'd be interested to know if any of Feezle's posts have convinced the micarta crowd to switch their vote as to what the main "hero" blade is.

I'll defer to Rob's expertise, but to me it does look "real" (as in a real object, not a knife blade) as it doesn't line up on or with the handle, and has a rather noticeable angle difference from the handle. That why I thought that it might be a real object designed to deflect or crumble up (even like heavy paper) on the 'impact' to the face of the actor in the zombie makeup. I must say though that either way, it looked real enough in motion! :)

I guarantee you it is a CG blade used in conjunction with the bladeless handle :)

Fairly easy to do once you know how. Using programs like Lightwave or Maya to motion track, light and render the virtual object and blood particle effects to a 32bit image file, then composite the rendered frames using something like Shake or After Effects over the live action footage - a shot like this can be done in a snap. When you watch the scene the blade is on screen for only a handful of blurry frames and 999 people out of 1000 won't even notice. Only us Busse nerds do :)

There are Busse nerds? I'm shocked! ;-)
Also I'm voting B&T for the hero knife. The stunt knife could be black Micarta, if one was going to buy one that looked like the action shots.

Since this seems to be a never ending debate, is there any reason why someone from the Busse crew can't chime in? I mean, they know exactly what the sent the prop master, why not just tell us so people can get the exact model if that is what they so desire. Unless there is some sort of contractual clause that says they can't tell anyone, I don't see the big deal. I know it was fun to try and figure out what it was in the beginning, but now I think people would just like to know and move on to the next Busse mystery :)

lexi from busse has responded to me via email. see above. her response was black and tan. I agree a public statement from busse would be nice.

I think it's pretty clear in this pic that the crew armourer has 3 on hand, one obviously black and tan, plus a bladeless stunt knife.

This. Jerry himself stated in another thread they have several TG's as well as some TGLB's on set (not to mention the stunt knives) so it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if some had different finishes and handles than others.

The shot of the TG in the foreground of the Creek scene was for sure black and tan on DC.I stopped the DVD right on it and it was clear as day.

Where he is bucked off the horse and falls down the hill. There is a scene that shows the TG handle in the foreground in great focus.

Hey everyone! I just wanted clarify a couple of things :D The color combination that Daryl carries in Season 3 of The Walking Dead is competition finish with Tan and Black G10 handles. You guys are correct, though =) The pictures do not look like Tan and Black G10. They usually modify the knife or handle to make it look more aged or worn with time. There is no telling what the prop department did to make the handle look like that. Those guys get pretty creative sometimes ;)

Thank you Pokey for clearing this all up!
I no longer have doubts that I might have been wrong in saying CF with tan and black for the last year. ;)

That is cool. I thought it was the same one as season one and two. Now I really do have the same combo as used on the show.

So really we were all right... the early episodes (the pics that started this thread) are in fact Black Canvas and the later episodes are B&T G10 (you just can't fault Darryl's taste in this respect).

Now... I must say I am please to know that the Busse Compound has held out through the Zombie Apocalypse and continues to ship blades (so Darryl was able to get his new TG ;) ).

Prop guys are pretty amazing. I have seen them take pump shotguns and make them fire semi auto. If they can do that then making a handle look different is no big wow as far as I am concerned.
