We can settle this in one of two ways. Either a muay thai rope fist match of coarse by ancient rules with glue and crushed glass applied to the hand wraps. Or we could all meet at an abandoned warehouse circle, tie their hands together and have a good old fashion knive fight. After there is a winner we could all dance like in the Micheal Jackson video "Beat It" that would be cool. With each mans best khukris of coarse. I vote for the rope fist match. Whos with me

I don't know I have tried it both ways and the last few times I ended up killing the other guy...I am still getting hassled about that, it turns out some people get all whinny over those things.

Hmm, I don't think you have to wait to respond to a question.

Eric.

That's the way I read it. Basically it is just to keep the guys from bumping their own for sale threads up every few hours as it puts new posters way down the page too fast.

I'm in and want first dibs.

"Death to Tyrants"

Simple answer- if you want people on this forum to know you have Knives for sale, Upgrade to Gold or Platinum and post them for sale in the appropriate forum. You can post a link in your signature line saying "Khukuri Sale!" or whatever, so that all your posts basically become a heads up to people that you are selling knives. It is handy if you want to buy a certain model as well.

As far as not paying for a membership, and trying to alert members to your sales posted on fleabay or elsewhere, that would be sneakiness, and earn you a quick trip to the Briney deep.

Mod sass in general will get you marched off the plank. Calling one a Jackass and still not being banned is a testament to the nice nature of Nasty.

Khuks must be posted for sale on the Exchange forum. IIRC, some people have posted "check out my sale thread" on the HI forum, with a link to the Exchange thread. In my opinion, this is more appropriate if you have a range of things, or rarer items that don't show up very often. For example, I'd want to know if a Super Salyan or the Duck's mythical Durba stash went up. Not so much for a 15" AK. Sometimes folks sell khuks to cover emergencies/sudden expenses, and links to such sales fit in with the climate of the cantina.

IMHO, we should allow threads which link to Exchange sales. We can also use the cantina thread for chit-chat about the knives, since this is not allowed in the Exchange thread.

A side note - I understand the 72-hour rule to cover a post purely for bumping. You can still respond to questions about the knives or sale terms as they arise, though some people have gotten dinged by the mods for this. As far as I know, the dings were just misunderstandings.

Shann - I have no problem with legitimate questions. When the legitimate question comes from a know and warned spammer, it carries a different message.

Cybrok - You are exactly correct.

Edutsi - You are 100% correct.

Grappler - I hear you perfectly well and would enjoy it equally. You'll have to come to the next Khukuri Khonvention I host.

Rat - Thank you for your insight.

Tohatchi - You use the word "opinion" a couple of times...I have one also, unfortunately, this forum *belongs* to Spark lock, stock and barrel, so his is the only opinion that matters. Yangdu has asked me to help her keep things running as Spark and she have designed them. I told her I would and *will* keep my word to her.

As for Benny - His silence speaks volumes. Any infraction at this point will result in his perma-ban. I need to be fair and remind everyone that once banned, if the user is discovered to have returned under a new user name, it will result in not only another perma-ban, but may also result in an IP block...and other customers of your ISP may suffer as well. Your ISP may not like this.

I'm done with this topic.

I wouldn't ask or expect that you do anything against the rules. Spark makes stipulations necessary to keep things running smoothly. In the event I disagree with something, I will protest but follow the rules. If I can't stomach that, I'll leave.

However, aside from the Forum-wide rules, different subcategories have different standards of conduct. I wasn't around much for a two or three year chunk of time, during which a lot of tension was building up and some of the rules were changing. Sort of the point Yvsa was making in the his "Read the FAQ" thread. So I'm trying to re-learn things without stepping on anyones toes.

The following point is only tangentially related to the topic that started this thread, which is a vague sale offer by someone who has been asked not to do that in the past. Maybe it should be spun off into a seperate thread:

Cross-posting sale threads was recently discussed in the Busse forum. I did a little more research. The FAQ specifically lists pointing to retailers that aren't BF supporters, and eBay, as not allowed. I couldn't find anything about posting legitimate Exchange sales to another BF forum. Perhaps it is a gray area, but it doesn't appear to hurt bladeforums in any way. Sales must still be made by a gold or higher level member. It also provides a place to chat about ongoing sales, which is specifically prohibited in the Exchange forum. If people feel it is taking business away from HI or Yangdu's deals, then we shouldn't do it. I'm floating this as a community norm which should be discussed. Please correct/forgive me if such a standard already exists, and I wasn't aware of it.

"You can post a link in your signature line saying "Khukuri Sale"

simple question...is this true or false?

I'll have to check with Cougar, who will check with Spark if he doesn't know for sure.

Alternatively, you could ask them yourself...in the Sales and Support forum.

Which would you prefer?

ps: It's not really a simple yes or no...there are qualifiers. ie. Are you a dealer? Would the link be to a legitimate Bladeforums sale properly done" so on and so on...

I would prefer you ask that gets the message out to more forum members in the Hi group...I am no dealer I am gold but mine are a reduction in the present collection to get the money to buy more new ones. I know dealers and makers have links now to their web sites.

A few guys post a link to a list of knives they either want or are selling in their sig.

For the record.. Any spam I previously posted was a newbie mistake and was never done with the intention of breaking the rules. Look at those past threads and they will speak for themsleves. That being said, my beef is that I asked a simple question directed at those whom I assume to know best and the respone I got was condescending and accusing. I will not stand for being belittled by anyone, especially those in a position to be looked to for guidence. I do not wish to make waves or be banned... no one does. I've said my peace and I'll say no more. Thank you.

Wait, Nasty... if "insulting another member" is a 5 point offense, why did you issue him 40 points for doing it? Pardon my asking, but it seems... I dunno..

Everyone back up a minute, Nastys end statement was .........
"watcha sellin?"

LOL

Did anyone take time to see LOL.................????

End it and move on.

I think you missed this part Sams...

Well, well, well...that was a quick 40 point infraction there Benny.

Let's see now...*if* I were to add "Insulting other member", it would ban you immediately (5 points).

*If* I were to add "Inappropriate language", it would ban you immediately (1 point).

The next words out of your mouth will be interesting to say the least.

I strongly suggest that you read the FAQ I was *nice* enough to provide to you.

ps: This user is at the 50 point limit due to his spam offering a khukuri for sale on 3-3-07

Yes...all of this stuff is recorded in the Back End.

That's what I was talkin' about:o

Giving you the benefit of the doubt, you have a couple of options:

1. Pony up $25 for a gold membership and post them on the Bladeforums exchange. This is probably your best option if you have enough stuff to sell.

2. eBay - I say #1 is preferable, because on Bladeforums you have people who know something about khuks, and you won't have to compete with low-priced junk. I'm assuming you are trying to sell HI or other functional khuks.

3. Approach people individually via email. This would be lots of work, would probably aggravate people, and would get you less than top dollar, unless you have some truely awesome antiques.

4. Sell locally via flea-market, ads in the paper, personal friends, etc.

Sorry I don't know any other online markets or venues that might be appropriate.

For what it's worth, two things help out on internet forums. First, learn the rules/local standards for a particular list. Reading the FAQ helps, as does lurking and reading to see what the climate is like. Second, develop a thick skin. People are built for face-to-face communication, and this typing thing doesn't convey emotion or intent so well. Measure your words carefully. Expect people to misinterpret and overreact. Brush it off and give them a second chance (or third, or fourth, depending on how patient you are).

If you are here to learn something, welcome aboard. If you're here to poke people until they react, then I hope you find someplace else to pursue this "hobby".

Good luck with your sale, however it plays out. Hope I'm not feeding the trolls.

Guys - Read the FAQs published by Spark...how many times do I have to say that? See the infraction titled "Sassin the Mods". Rat had it right...most Mods would insta-ban a user calling them a jackass.

Jpulz - You owe Sams an apology...*he* wasn't the one missing anything.

Benney - I have waited long enough for you to get your foot out of your mouth and apologize but as you've stated, you'll "say no more". The very next thing you do that is covered by any infraction will be your last. Also see the fair warning I posted about using another identity and the possible repercussions from your ISP. You might want to rethink your name calling in the future. As for what you will or won't stand for, be careful that you aren't standing for it outside.

Tohatchi NM-

#3 on your list would get you banned.

Just thought I would point that out before someone went and tried it.
