here's one for the mods

Once again, Rat is totally correct. It would be an insta-ban.

1. Best choice
2. Fine choice, but don't spam BF with ads about the sale (Likely ban)
3. Insta-ban
4. Non of BF's business

Guys...you feed the trolls by helping to keep this on top, thus forcing me to lock it or delete this copy of it.

I apologize to Sams for being a little bit rude :( , and similarly to the ever-devoted Mod. Nasty. Thanks for enlightening me about the point infraction for mod-sass. I spoke to soon and out of place.

Thanks! :)

Another question for HI people, that means YOU.

People here are known to be sharks. Do you REALLY shark ONLY here?

I personally regularly take a look at the sale and trade forums, even if I shouldn't because I have not a lot of money.

Almost everyone who had HIs for sale got a mail by me, asking if they were interrested in a trade. They were not and that's ok.

Before the "no chat in sale section" rule, there were a lot of guys from here leaving comments on the sale thread.

You don't have to get the mods angry at you to sale your stuff! (as long as you're a gold member).

I sometimes look there to see what else I can't afford...yes.

FWIW...we usually don't get angry (unless we are called names or some keyboard kommando tries to intimidate us)...we mostly just get tired of saying the same things over and over to guys who *do* know better. New guys are usually easy...explain things once and they accept it...they don't think they are due special consideration. The guys that have been warned or have 1000 posts and still break the rules, yeah...we get tired of such nonsense.

Really, I'm not trying to FTT! I know who owns the forum and what the rules are. I'm not going to touch the original 3 posts and the mod's decisions WRT to them.

In fact, this may be a point for another thread, but hijacking this one can't hurt. ;) Anyway, I have never understood why as long as you _are_ a Gold or Platinum member, you are not allowed to mention (only!) in the HI forum that you have HI knives for sale over on the Exchange?? It is a tremendous help to be able to do so if you're selling an HI product.

This is where the interest in those knives lives! I can definitely see rules against non-Gold+ members posting about their private sales, or their sales on Ebay, or a guy selling his Busses (or HI's for that matter) spamming every list on BF advertising his sale, but I just don't understand the logic behind this one.

What I've done subsequently is post on the Exchange (usually in the Production knives area) and then spam (via email) every guy I know here, and mention the sale of my HI stuff to him. Really inefficient, and intrusive.

I wrote to Spark about this a couple of years ago, and he said it was to prevent non Gold+ members from selling their stuff, but that doesn't really apply to my point does it? Confusing...

In short, if I was selling a Busse, then the Busse Forum is where it would be logical to mention it, assuming I had the correct membership paid up. Thanks for any clarification!

In fact now you have to wait 72 hours to respond to your own sale thread so it does not bump.

Really? Outstanding! Although I know a few Busse and Swamp Rat guys (or a few dozen! :D ) who probably won't be pleased.

This is a great rule and a long-time coming. I always tried to wait at least 2-3 days between bumps, just out of consideration for the next guy.

Norm

Easy...

Spark said so.

Hmm. So? Ok, then I'll write to him again right now. He obviously didn't understand my original question or the issue, or he would have explained it differently to me or changed the rules accordingly.

I was wrong to wait so long to follow up with him.

Thanks for the feedback.

Norm

P.S. PM sent. I'll see how it shakes out. I sell so seldom that this is not a huge issue, (and besides, all the land sharks here seem to know to regularly patrol the Exchange :D), but I'm trying to understand the problem this fixes. Thanks again.

Realized that I had never followed up on this: The info is that both Rat and Ted posted is correct. (I figured Rat was probably right, but you know when Ted chimed in I started to worry! :p :D )

A discreet link in the signature file is the way to go. Spark points out that if everyone created threads pointing to stuff they were selling, or other deals or auctions, etc., etc., that "the noise to signal rate for content would go through the roof."

Works for me; (as long as I don't have to rely on spamming a bunch of folks via email!) Folks that are paying attention will see the link and follow it to the sale. Just wanted to get the official nod that signing off with a link was OK as well.

Thanks,

Norm

Points? Are there really stated infractions with associated points? Too funny. I used to give, and take away points from my kids when they were little. For example, failure to make one's bed = a one point infractio. Failure to brush one's teeth was a 5 point infraction. Cleaning one's room resulted in a 5 point credit. Accumulated points at the end of the week determined the kid's allowance.

Maybe we can take the point system to new heights?

Here ya go Willieboy...pick your poison.

FWIW, we are also authorized to make up our own and assign points as we see fit.

Infraction Level

Signature Rule Violation 1
Inappropriate Language 1
Failure to follow Forum Specific Rules 1
Insulted Other Member(s) 5

In the interest of saving anyone from testing this in this particular thread, I'm closing it now. I hope we've all had enough discussion of this, but if not, there is more information in the FAQs.
